The New York Giants were one of the teams everyone felt would look at QB prospects in this season’s NFL Draft. Once they wound up with pick No. 3, they looked at veterans and narrowed down to Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers.

But four days ago, they signed Jameis Winston to a two-year contract. That gave fans the idea that he could be the bridge quarterback until they land a player they like. Winston would at least steady the ship and help the rest of the younger players develop until their franchise QB arrived.

A perfect idea considering most rookie QBs land in horrible situations and are under pressure to help lead the franchise out of the foxhole. The Giants now just had to focus on drafting another crucial piece as they continue building a competitive team.

Many thought they could still pick Shedeur Sanders at No.3 and keep him on the sidelines until he was ready. But earlier today, their latest move casts a major doubt on that possibility, as Adam Schefter revealed.

ESPN Sources: The Giants and Super Bowl-winning QB Russell Wilson reached agreement today on a one-year deal worth up to $21 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed. The 10-time Pro-Bowl selection had been in discussions with the Giants, Browns and Steelers, but is opting for New York.

This news flash means now the Giants have three QBs, which almost effectively rules out the chances of drafting a QB. But more importantly, Russell Wilson‘s signing does not clarify how the franchise is working towards their future.

Fans ask questions after Russell Wilson’s signing

The problem fans have is that this signing poses a lot of questions than answers. First off, they wonder why the New York Giants signed Winston. He is good enough to start until they found their franchise QB. At the same time, the $21 million that they have placed on the line seems excessive.

That money could have been used elsewhere instead of throwing it behind essentially a one-year rental. Wilson himself has not been elite, especially towards the end of last season. Examples of these fan questions are listed below.

It is not that Russell Wilson cannot have a better season than Jameis Winston. He can help Malik Nabers, and that young offense grow. He can even use his valuable Super Bowl winning experience to help develop them. Wilson is not without his positives.

With him starting, the Giants could win a lot of games. But a one-year rental plan might not be the best solution for a team that needs a solid option at QB for the long run. Maybe all these moves suggest they are looking at next year’s QB prospects.

Both Pittsburgh Steelers QBs are in New York

With Russell Wilson signing with the New York Giants, suddenly the Pittsburgh Steelers come back into focus. On one hand, were they too stingy that both their quarterbacks chose other teams? Or was something else going on that now they do not have a QB to lead their team?

Mike Tomlin and the Steelers’ top executives wanted to retain either of Wilson or Justin Fields. The latter was the first to bolt when the New York Jets came calling. Now his veteran teammate also joins him in the same city.

The two will play in the same stadium, but for different teams. They might be linking up to talk about how they both chose to leave the Steelers, who effectively gave both of them a chance at redeeming their careers. It could also be that the Steelers did not want to overpay for QBs they did not think that highly of.

But the question now remains is who will play the quarterback position for them next season. Some think the obvious answer is Aaron Rodgers, since he is the lone QB standing without a contract. But if he signs with the Cleveland Browns, Steelers fans might have some questions.
