Ruturaj Gaikwad scored his 2nd IPL century and his maiden century as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain on 23rd April, 2024. He is now also the first CSK captain to score a century, something his predecessors have failed to do in the 16 years of the IPL. 

This century came against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram stadium. The opener from Pune took 56 balls to score his century. The century from Ruturaj Gaikwad saw 12 boundaries and three sixes, with him finishing the innings not out with 108* runs off 60 balls.

He was supported from the opposite end by Shivam Dube, as the two took CSK to the total of 210, their 3rd 200+ score. While the top order struggled on the slow pitch of Chepauk, Gaikwad took his time and powered to his 2nd IPL ton. 

His opening partner, Ajinkya Rahane, was dismissed for just a run in the first over thanks to a brilliant catch by KL Rahul. Daryl Mitchell, who came in place of Rachin Ravindra, failed to make an impact and made only 11 off 10.

Ravindra Jadeja was given a promotion at number four, but had yet another poor outing with the bat, managing 16 of 19. Dube scored a 22-ball-fifty and stitched up a century partnership with his captain. MS Dhoni came in to bat in the last over, playing only one ball and hitting a four. 

Fans praise Ruturaj Gaikwad for the century 

Fans were amazed by Ruturaj Gaikwad’s incredible century, which saved the CSK innings. They praised him for playing proper cricketing shots and not going to slog like everyone else. Some fans commented on how he played with a better strike rate to score his tons, unlike senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Defending 211, Deepak Chahar began the innings by bowling Quinton de Kock on the 3rd ball of the innings. Impact Player Devdutt Padikkal and Marcus Stoinis are in the middle, ensuring they could take LSG to complete the double over CSK.
