2023 Cup champion Ryan Blaney proposes a massive change to NASCAR playoffs
Team Penske Racing’s Ryan Blaney believes a significant changes to the NASCAR Cup series playoff format amidst controversy.

The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season saw Joey Logano joining the list of stock car racing elites, winning his third championship. But his victory didn’t receive the same warmth from the fans as the previous victorious, owing to the unimpressive performance of him in the regular season and many in the community has demanded changes to post-season system.
Now the 2023 Cup champion Ryan Blaney has proposed a change that could make the sport better. He wants the playoff to be two rounds of five races, with the same 16 in it. Blaney highlighted that eliminating eight drivers after the first round and giving more points for race wins, can make the format better, competitive and entertaining.
While further talking about the point, he pointed out that he is in the frontline fighting for the change in the playoffs. The No:12 Ford Mustang driver believes there is space for tweaks to the system to make it better.

Roger Penske, who owns the Blaney’s team as well as a whole motorsports series in IndyCar also shared his verdict on the point. He left it for NASCAR to make a decision on the change and admitted that he feels a change is really needed, some changes are needed.
The comments from the Team Penske Racing owner most probably would be shared by almost all the owners in the racing community. NASCAR has to make some tweaks to the system, and it will be interesting to see how long it will take to make those changes.
