- Ryan Clark criticized a White House video that used NFL highlights to promote military actions against Iran, calling it "disgusting and despicable."
- He expressed disappointment over the insensitivity of combining war themes with sports, emphasizing that war is not a comedy.
- Clark also condemned the current administration's credibility and integrity, stating that the video reflects a lack of understanding of soldiers' sacrifices.
Ryan Clark shared his unfiltered thoughts on a White House video that used NFL highlights to boast about its strikes against Iran. The NFL athlete turned football expert labeled the act “disgusting and despicable.”
Clark spent 13 seasons in the NFL playing for the New York Giants, Washington Commanders, and Pittsburgh Steelers. In 177 appearances, Clark recorded 938 combined tackles, 4.0 sacks, 19 TFLs, 16 interceptions, 55 pass deflections, 4 forced fumbles, and 8 fumble returns. Clark finished his career with a Super Bowl-winning medal with the Steelers in 2008 and one Pro Bowl nod in 2011.
After retiring in 2015, Clark switched to broadcasting. He started his second innings as an analyst for ESPN. On the side, he created the Pivot podcast with former NFL players Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor. In a recent episode of their show, Clark reacted to a White House video that used NFL highlights to boast about its strikes against Iran.
I’m disappointed [with the video] because, for one, to have Tropic Thunder [a parody movie about war starring Robert Downey Junior] and football highlights on a video about war is one of the more insensitive things that I’ve ever seen. There are families here in our country whose loved ones have decided to give their lives to fight for our rights and our freedoms, who don’t see war as a sport. War doesn’t deserve a highlight film for Tropic Thunder to be a part of it. War is not a comedy.
“The latest White House post is… disgusting & despicable”

War is not a sport, & it’s certainly not a comedy. I’ve been asked how I felt about being included in a post from the White House using NFL hits as some sort of war highlight film. Truthfully, I don’t feel rage, but… pic.twitter.com/z9CrZDUBY6
Clark made those comments after watching the White House clips of football players, including him, to boast about the war in Iran over the oil reserves.

Clark took shots at Donald Trump, referring to the President as an attention seeker, claiming the video “tells you the difference between a public servant and a reality star.” Clark added that a real “public servant” understands the suffering of the soldiers who are not fighting to protect “our safety as much as for someone else’s agenda.” He added:
I think we’ve [USA] lost 100% any credibility. We’ve lost all decorum. We’ve lost all integrity. We’ve lost all character. And I believe that the latest White House post, or the White House post involving myself and other NFL players, is absolutely disgusting and despicable.
This is not the first time Clark has criticized Trump and the White House, and judging by his words, it won’t be the last.
Ryan Clark does not like the quarterback situation at the Steelers
Clark won his one and only Super Bowl while playing for the Steelers, so he has a soft spot for the team from Pittsburgh. He wants to see the Steelers end their post-season purgatory, which extended to seven years following their exit in the wildcard at the hands of the Houston Texans.

With Aaron Rodgers’ future uncertain, the Steelers are exploring veteran free agents like Kirk Cousins as potential bridge quarterbacks to guide the team until Will Howard is ready to take over. However, Clark wants his former team to ditch the idea and start with Howard instead. Clark said on ESPN’s Get Up:
What you do not want to do is go get Aaron Rodgers and win 8,9 or 10 games… At some point, they gotta get out of quarterback purgatory. They can’t figure it out… So, don’t go out there and just put a band-aid over this quarterback position thing again.
New head coach Mike McCarthy is still waiting for an answer from Rodgers. And it appears the Steelers will not decide until the four-time NFL MVP gives an update about his future.
