Aaron Rodgers has done the unlikely. The quarterback is the reason for Davante Adams joining the Jets and for Mike Williams to strongly consider offers from other teams. During the final minutes of the 4th quarter in the Jets matchup against the Bills, Taron Johnson intercepted Rodgers’ pass which was meant to be caught by Mike Williams.

However, Aaron Rodgers publicly called Mike Williams out for running the wrong route. This did not sit well with former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick who disapproved of the four-time NFL MVP throwing his wide receiver under the bus. He re-posted a video of Aaron Rodgers addressing his comments on Mike Williams on the Pat McAfee Show with his thoughts as the caption.

Ryan Fitzpatrick believes Aaron Rodgers should never have criticized the mistake made by Williams in public. The NFL analyst for Thursday Night Football believes Rodgers took the wrong approach.

This response is the biggest thing I don’t understand about Aaron…can be super charismatic, his swagger gives teammates the ultimate confidence but why can’t he shoulder all the blame in the media and then get behind closed doors with Mike Williams or the whole offense or the whole team or anyone else that isn’t doing their job and tell them he needs more out of them? The need to set the record straight at the expense of someone lesser than just hurts me.

A good leader holds himself accountable for all the mistakes in the public domain and handles confrontation in private.

Mike Williams skipped practice a day after Aaron Rodgers called him out publicly

The former NFL quarterback did not deny the fact that Mike Williams erred and ran a wrong route. However, by naming him and putting the notion that the wideout did not do his job, Rodgers managed to exonerate himself from the criticism of fans who continue to blame him for the team’s dismal outing this season.

Rodgers had attempted to throw a no-look pass to Mike Williams on the red line right after Allen Lazard gave the impression to defenders that he was the one receiving the pass. However, Williams was running an in-breaker whereas he was meant to be running down the red line. By the time Rodgers adjusted to Williams’ route mid-throw, it allowed the defender to jump right in and pick him off. “It’s the little things every single time,” a frustrated Rodgers had told the media after the game.

Williams did not attend practice the day after Rodgers made his comments. Fortunately, he came back to the team’s facility earlier today. With Davante Adams joining the Jets, Williams could find himself in a new home in the second half of this season. So far, the Los Angeles Chargers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New Orleans Saints have inquired about his availability as per The Athletic. Rodgers’ recent comments could have a role to play in his decision to stay with the Jets or leave.
