It’s hard to fathom Ryan Garcia’s current state of affairs. The California native is facing PED allegations that threaten to derail his once-promising career. Subsequently, BoxRec elevated him to number three in their welterweight division rankings. However, this is confusing because Garcia was a lightweight boxer who moved up to super lightweight during his last fight against Devin Haney

At the official weigh-in for the fight, KingRy was three pounds overweight at 143 pounds. Hence, this made him a full-fledged welterweight. Subsequently, his weight also prevented him from becoming the WBC super-lightweight champion. Garcia had previously mentioned that weight-cutting as a lightweight boxer had become a nightmare for him. However, the young boxer has fought in lower-weight classes before.

He even blamed his first professional loss against Gervonta Davis for this very reason. Regardless, the sudden jump in weight has come as something of a surprise for most of the boxing world. At the same time, his performance against Haney caused him to be ranked as the third-best current welterweight boxer.

Hence, even though Garcia has not fought in the welterweight division, he is now ranked amongst Terence Crawford and Jarron Ennis. In addition, KingRy has expressed an interest in fighting in the division and has even called out Crawford, Errol Spence, and Sebastian Fundora. This means that Garcia’s next fight might be in the welterweight division.

UFC fighter calls out Ryan Garcia

Renato Moicano recently challenged the boxing star to a fight and took a shot at the fighter’s ongoing PED allegations. Furthermore, Garcia has denied the accusations and asked for a retest of his ‘B’ sample. The retest results will be released on May 22 and will be used to determine Garcia’s eligibility before the NYSAC.

In the interim, though, the UFC fighter decided to call out the boxer because of the controversy. After Moicano won his most recent grappling-only bout against Guzman on UFC Fight Pass, he used the post-match interview to challenge Garcia to a boxing match.

Hence, the UFC lightweight contender has made it clear that he’s ready to step into the boxing ring next, and he’s eyeing Garcia as his top opponent. Furthermore, Ryan Garcia and Sean O’Malley have also been going back and forth for a fight.
