Ryan Garcia can’t catch a break. The viral boxer, Shakur Stevenson, and Keyshawn Davis melded minds and Instagram Live recently. ‘King Ry’ Garcia and Shakur Stevenson sparred in some verbal jabs. Wanting to face each other. The 25-year-old has been in a bit of a rough patch lately. Add to that, Stevenson and Keyshawn Davis called him out on his recent slurry trends.
Things weren’t all hostile. Davis and Garcia mocked Teofimo Lopez for his “outta pocket” wilderness. He had even scuffled with Garcia, saying his mother’s malignancy is pure karma, because of him. Davis seeks a fight with Lopez for his WBO light welterweight title; not tough given they are with the same promoter at Top Rank. So he has been jonesing to employ their help to lock a match. However, the topic took another angle.
Nah, fu*k all…fu*k all'at…Ryan — Why you keep talking about black people. bro? This n***a crazy. We can’t take them serious [laughs]Keyshawn Davis via IG Live/ @KeyshawnDavis8; @ShakurStevenson, @RyanGarcia
In light of his recent racist rant on live stream in X-Spaces, Garcia maintained that he did not particularly mean anything. Not against POC, BIPOC, or Islamists. Stevenson was not having any of it though. Garcia (back to 24-1, 20KOs) dominantly outpointed WBC super-lightweight champ Devin Haney on April 20th at the Barclays Center with a shocking upset. During the phase, Stevenson had accordingly doused challenges at the boxer.
Currently serving a NYSAC-imposed year ban, he has been in a pool of trouble since then. WBC expelled him for his racial and discriminative slurs; he tested in the green for the PED Ostarine. Thursday; County Dist. Atty. George Gascón announced Garcia was charged with vandalism for his actions in the Waldorf Astoria hotel. However, Shakur Stevenson wants in. Consequently, both of them agreed to a matchup. Surprisingly, all credit to Keyshawn Davis for popping the topic.
Ryan Garcia and Shakur Stevenson verbally agree to fight at 144
Ryan Garcia had very recently put the WBC lightweight Stevenson under the scope after his widely criticized win over Artem Harutyunyan at the Prudential Center. Taking to X, the brash-mouth boxer even advised he should “microdose on shrooms,” to numb the ego hurt. So, Shakur Stevenson consequently jumped the gun in calling him out when he denied actually meaning his slurs towards people of color.
It is interesting to note that before he defeated Haney in April (expunged by NYSAC), the Victorville native told Stevenson that he would face him next. With Keyshawn Davis as witness to it all, he thus did not back down from the offer. He even challenged that he’d drop him.
Bro, I will drop you. I will make you sh*t your pants. I will do it at 144...Ryan Garcia via IG Live (@RyanGarcia)
Davis noted that the boxer must be mad or dead drunk. Hesitant at first, Stevenson agreed to be “all in.” Garcia later retracted his dead drunk demeanor to say he thinks Stevenson is cool. The latter reciprocated the thoughts but said he’d have to drop him, sooner or later.
‘King Ry’ has been adamant about rehydrating to the 144-pound limit ever since his win over Haney. He wobbled him thrice during their showdown. A severely leaner Ryan Garcia did not make it against Gervonta Davis, subject to his full-body and liver shots. Hence, as such, a matchup between him and Stevenson could take place. But only given Garcia does not get convicted on his prior encounters with the law.
