The result of the fight between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia caught everybody off guard. The young boxer was expected to lose against pound-for-pound champion Haney. However, between his antics, Garcia had always claimed that he intended to hurt Haney and lived up to his word. However, his extra weight advantage helped him deliver such a dominant performance.

During the weigh-in, Garcia was 3 pounds heavier than Haney, who exactly weighed 140 pounds. This caused ‘KingRy’ to pay his opponent $1.5 million, and he did not seem to care. Rather, he seemed happy about his weight advantage. As such, Garcia recently revealed that he rehydrated before the fight and weighed as a middleweight.

I was about 160.

Garcia revealed that his weight during the fight was 17 pounds more than his weigh-in. However, this was not a problem since they signed a contract after he missed weight and paid a fine. He also remarked on how Haney tends to bully his opponents with his weight. However, this time, Garcia turned the tables on Haney and ‘bullied’ the ‘weight bully.’

Hence, Garcia’s weight was in the middleweight class rather than even welterweight, which is right above the super lightweight division. Recently, ‘KingRy’ also revealed that Floyd Mayweather told him to have this weight advantage. This implied he fully intended to have the weight advantage to fight Haney.

Devin Haney demands a fair fight from Ryan Garcia

The loss has, of course, affected Devin Haney since he has remained undefeated throughout his illustrious career. He had called Garcia a ‘C-level’ fighter and predicted an easy victory in the fight. Subsequently, ‘KingRy’ was able to deliver a masterclass against Haney and break the undefeated status.

However, ‘The Dream’ still plans on bouncing back from his professional loss. He issued a statement after his devastating loss and spoke about how all of this was God’s plan. Furthermore, he gave props to his opponent but mentioned how Ryan Garcia had an advantage in terms of weight.

Furthermore, Haney asked for a rematch with a ‘fair fight’, which implied that their first professional bout wasn’t one. ‘The Dream’ wishes to redeem himself and his first professional loss. Subsequently, Garcia has shown little to no interest in the rematch and is aiming for bigger fights.
