Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney lived up to the hype created during the build-up. KingRy’s alleged drug use, mental breakdowns, and alcoholism during his training camp were a focal point for fans. Garcia even chugged down a beer during his weigh-ins and weighed in at 143.2 pounds.
After that Garcia had to pay Haney $1.5 million. This was because he made a bet that he’d pay $500K per pound that he overweighed. The young boxer chugging down a beer and missing weight received a lot of mixed reactions from the combat sports world. However, the truth was revealed when KingRy Facetimed Jake Paul and stated:

Paul and Garcia were having a conversation right after the weigh-ins. Subsequently, The Problem Child asked him if he had an extra beer. KingRy said that he could get Paul one and proceeded to reveal that he drank apple juice and sparkling water while on stage. The problem child laughed and was caught off guard since he believed that it was beer.
The 25-year-old boxer then revealed that he knew it would cause a frenzy among fans. Hence, this highlighted how most of Garcia’s behavior was planned and curated in a specific way to garner more interest for the fight.
Bernard Hopkins speaks about Garcia’s performance without alcohol
Even though Garcia did not drink beer during the weigh-ins, that does not mean that he abstained from substances in his training camp. The young boxing star revealed in a pre-fight press conference that he consumes weed and alcohol while denying his alleged cocaine use.
As such, his lack of discipline did attract a lot of attention and support from several people. Bernard Hopkins, a partner of Golden Boy Promotions, also shared his opinion about Garcia drinking during the post-fight press conference.
Just imagine if none of that happened and he stayed in camp for 8 weeks.Bernard Hopkins at the post-fight presser
Hopkins discussed the prospect of what Ryan Garcia‘s performance would have been if he were completely focused. Hence, the legendary boxer suggested that Garcia would have made easier work of The Dream. KingRy responded that he was in an 8-week training camp but was just having fun mostly.
