Crossover fights have created matchups that combat sports fans never thought they would witness. This was seen in several MMA fighters entering the boxing ring to deliver exciting fights. However, while this allows unexpected matchups to happen, it does not guarantee impossible matchups. Ryan Garcia seems to have looked past this fact and bizarrely proposed a fight between him and Jon Jones, albeit with a peculiar stipulation.
Currently, Garcia is set to fight Devin Haney on April 20 for the WBC super-lightweight title in New York. Throughout the build-up to the fight, his opponent has repeatedly accused Garcia of using cocaine. KingRy has denied these claims, but at the same time, he admitted that he has consumed alcohol and weed. Furthermore, with the fight right around the corner, Garcia took Haney’s accusations to the next level:
Ok, hypothetically, hear me out, Jon Jones vs. Ryan Garcia. We are both c*ked out. WHO WINS????Ryan Garcia via X
KingRy recently showed fans that he tested negative for any illegal substances after the VADA tested him for the fight. This might have prompted Garcia to troll the world about consuming cocaine by proposing a bizarre matchup. Furthermore, the post also attempted to troll fans who believed that he was having mental health issues.
This is because a fight between a lightweight and a heavyweight would never be a serious matchup. Regardless, Garcia’s strange post did garner significant attention from fans. Most people blasted Garcia for being delusional, but KingRy wasn’t serious about the challenge. Hence, through his antics, he is successfully promoting his upcoming fight.
Garcia compares his concerning behavior to Prime Mike Tyson
KingRy’s attempt to bring interest to the fight with his antics outside the ring can be compared to Muhammad Ali‘s tactics. However, Ali used his wit, words, and persona to do this, but Garcia has just been exhibiting his strange behavior.
This has, of course, raised questions about his mental health, which has now caused Garcia to compare himself to prime Mike Tyson. During the 1980s, Tyson was at the pinnacle of the sport and was known for having a controversial and erratic personality. As such, KingRy believes he is doing the same thing but receiving hate for it.
He called himself mental because he was ready to destroy his opponent during the fight. Ryan Garcia then reflected on how Tyson always had the same mindset before his fights. Subsequently, he mentioned how people are talking negatively about him, even though they respect Tyson.
