Ryan Garcia upset the odds against Devin Haney, winning via majority decision. As a sizeable underdog, and with pre-fight antics, nobody expected Garcia to perform as he did against Haney. However, a recent development in the doping-related matters of the fight has now caused a black mark on Garcia.

‘King Ry’ scored three knockdowns en route to the victory and later revealed all his antics preluding the fight was an act. However, there were still speculations that the boxer had used recreational drugs before the fight. Nonetheless, ESPN‘s boxing insider Mike Coppinger‘s recent revelation about Garcia’s doping violation has the world in shock.

Ryan Garcia tested positive for the PED Ostarine the day before and the day of his upset win over Devin Haney, per a VADA letter obtained by ESPN. Garcia has 10 days to request his B-sample be tested. A-sample also screened positive for 19-norandrosterone but unconfirmed.

WADA has Ostarine listed as an anabolic agent. Coppinger broke the news after he obtained a VADA letter regarding the matter. Garcia still has hope, albeit extremely low. He now has ten days to request a B-sample and test it at his expense. However, since the violation seems blatant, it’s unlikely a B-sample would be giving a negative test.

Per Coppinger, multiple high-profile boxers have tested positive for Ostarine and faced serious repercussions. Lucian Bute‘s majority decision win over Badou Jack changed to a DQ win for Jack, and Amir Khan‘s 2-year ban by UKAD was due to testing positive for Ostarine.

When Ryan Garcia defeated Devin Haney, the boxing community shook up. Nobody picked Garcia to showcase his talent, except a few like Mike Tyson. Moreover, the storyline was that the referee saved Haney from a TKO loss, which Garcia also endorsed.

Rumors speculated Garcia had won $12 million after he bet $2 million on himself winning against Devin Haney. With the doping violation, there is a chance he would face serious repercussions for it as well. This is in addition to the social media trolls he would likely get, particularly from Sean O’Malley.
