During the Minnesota Wild-Ottawa Senators game, tempers flared up among fans after Ryan Hartman‘s action again Tim Stutzle. The Wild’s star brought the head down of the Senators player leaving him bleeding around the left eye. He was later ejected from the game.
The incident took place in the second period. With the Senators leading the game 3-0, the Wild needed some spark in their line-up. Hartman would try to provide this spark by getting the better of Stutzle during a faceoff.
During the faceoff, Hartman would use his hand and force Stutzle head on the ground. The German international’s helmet would bounce off following the impact. He was left with a major cut near the left eye and immediately rushed to the bench to get treated.
The referees would stop the play after a delayed penalty and hand Hartman a five-minute match penalty for attempting to injure his opponent. As the replays rolled in, the commentators also condemned the actions of the American forward and claimed it was “hard to defend it.“
Following a quick video-review, the call on the ice was confirmed and Hartman was given a match penalty. A match penalty means ejection. The 30-year-old was thus removed from this game for this hit on Stutzle.

The big question now – will Ryan Hartman receive suspension from the NHL Department of Player Safety? This is not the first time he has tried to pull off a sneaky move during a faceoff.
He was fined around $4,427 for deliberate high-sticking Cole Perfetti of Winnipeg Jets once during a faceoff. Given that he is a repeat offender, the DoPS could take a major action against Hartman in the upcoming days.
