In the all-Canadian matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night, tempers flared as Ryan Reaves landed a vicious hit on Darnell Nurse. The Leafs enforcer was then ejected from the game.

The incident took place early in the second period moments after Connor McDavid had given the Oilers the lead again. In an attempt to get back into the game, the Leafs would launch an attack with Reaves on top.

As Nurse got the puck back, he tried to clear it away from the dangerous area. Reaves would come crashing on him and deliver a massive blow to him.

Nurse would fall down on the ground hard and was slow to get back up. He was also found to be bleeding on the ice. Reaves was handed a 5-minute penalty for this hit and was removed from the game.

After the game, coach Craig Berube wished Nurse well and declined to comment on the incident has he had not reviewed it. However, he emphasized the significance of the penalty kill in achieving this win.

I thought it was good. I mean we all wish Darnell well. We don’t like to see that on anybody. But we knew it was a big moment in the game, you know, getting a kill. And they did an excellent job.

As per reports, the NHL Department of Player Safety is likely to review this incident in the upcoming days. The Maple Leafs star could get suspended for a few games if the review goes against him.

Fans on social media were hyped up with the matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers. As the two Canadian rivals went face-to-face, it was Ryan Reaves‘s hit on Darnell Nurse that stole the spotlight in this enthralling 4-3 game.

Social media users were split regarding the hit of Reaves on Nurse and his ejection. While some backed Reaves, some called him out and urged the league to take action. One fan angrily wrote, “Suspend this clown forever“, while another fan, in Reaves defense, wrote, “Clean hit. Keep your head up kid“.

This match turned out to be the Maple Leafs’ second straight game which they won by a score of 4-3 in overtime. On Thursday, they took down the Capitals with this scoreline before coming away as winners on home turf on Saturday against the Oilers.

As for the Oilers, this was their third successive game which went into overtime. Unlike the previous two, this time they were unable to find a way to win. This loss brought an end to their three-game winning streak.
