Booker T explains why Ryback was unsuccessful in WWE

Ryback was heavily over with the WWE Universe in around 2012, and many expected him to be crowned the new WWE Champion at any point in the near future. However, he quickly began losing a lot of steam. He was demoted to the mid-card in less than a year and eventually sent to the tag team division. Ryback was released from the company in 2016.

Speaking on the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T opined that he could have easily become a huge star in WWE. However, most fans compared him to Bill Goldberg and wanted him to take a similar path. It was extremely hard to live up to these expectations, and it was his biggest hurdle in WWE.

It was always going to be hard to break out of that. I think that was the one thing that Ryback had that was working against him more than anything, [it] was people seeing Goldberg when they saw Ryback. And why? I don’t know.
