The WNBA All-Star weekend marks the mid-point of the regular season. Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Napheesa Collier, Sabrina Ionescu, and all the others had a whale of a time. But now, they have to return to the regular season grind with an eye on the playoffs.
The first three are hoping to make a run deep enough to challenge the New York Liberty for their crown. The Fever’s hopes depend on Clark’s health, and how quickly they can find a consistent rhythm.
Reese and her Sky are a work in progress, but their recent performances have some believing the team can surprise a few. Then comes last year’s Finalists, the Minnesota Lynx. Collier and her teammates were a couple of shots away from winning it all.
There was also the controversial officiating, which left many believing the Lynx were robbed. This season, Napheesa Collier has stepped her game up another level. The Lynx are the best team in the league, and are looking to avoid mistakes to win a title.
The New York Liberty are aware of that, and were looking to improve their team after the All-Star break. They had a roster spot open and signed Stephanie Talbot. However, according to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou, the franchise is not improving that roster.

According to her sources, EuroBasket MVP and 2019 Finals MVP, Emma Meesseman, has committed to sign with the Liberty. She will be available as soon as her visa is cleared. The Liberty will likely let go of second-year guard Jaylyn Sherrod to make way for the Belgian power forward.
Fans not pleased with Sabrina Ionescu’s Liberty getting richer
Emma Meesseman had dedicated the last few months to her national team’s EuroBasket campaign. Belgium won in stunning fashion, and two of her teammates returned to their WNBA rosters. The 32-year-old forward was expected to join one of the top contenders soon.
Some linked her to Caitlin Clark’s Fever, whereas others felt she could return to Chicago. However, no one expected her to join the New York Liberty. In joining Sabrina Ionescu and her star teammates, fans believe the team just became the most powerful force in the league.
They created a Big 4 this offseason, bringing in Natasha Cloud. Then they have a deep bench with the likes of Marine Johannes, Rebekah Gardner, Nyara Sabally, and Kennedy Burke.
Adding a star power forward in Emma Meesseman just makes it unfair for the rest of the league. Fans believe the league should not have allowed this. Check out some of their social media reactions below:

Last month, the New York Liberty were struggling with inconsistency the moment star center Jonquel Jones went down with injuries. With Meesseman’s signing, the team is essentially covering all their weaknesses, and will be primed to defend their title.
Sabrina Ionescu and her Liberty will again face super team trolls
Last season, when the New York Liberty won their 1st-ever WNBA title, some fans claimed that the creation of a super team helped them win a title. Sabrina Ionescu, Nyara Sabally, Kennedy Burke, and the suspended Betnijah Laney-Hamilton were the lone players the team had developed.

They signed or traded for three superstars, Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones, and Courtney Vandersloot. Once the latter decided to return home to Chicago this season, the Liberty traded for Natasha Cloud as her replacement.
Now, once Emma Meesseman comes in, the team will effectively have five All-Star caliber players to start every game. Moreover, some of their bench players could become All-Stars on other teams.
This will likely draw more trolls who will label their win, if they do, as a result of assembling a super team. They managed to exploit the contract loopholes in the current CBA and used them to create a monster. Sabrina Ionescu might have an easier route to the title this time.
