The Sachin Tendulkar team clarified the matter to avoid any further confusion. It is believed that current members of the board, secretary Devajit Saikia, joint secretary Rohan Dessai and treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhatia will retain their positions after the upcoming elections as well.
Rajeev Shukla, who is the current vice president of the board, is also expected to stay a part of the board in some different role in all probability. There will be some fresh faces deciding on Indian cricket going forward, and that might bring some changes in how the structure of the sport in the country pans out.
A look at the tenure of BCCI President Roger Binny
1983 World Cup winner and highest-wicket taker of that edition, Roger Binny, was at the helm of BCCI for the past two years. He accepted the position in February 2023. Binny will soon be replaced with a new name after the presidential elections of the board get going. The two years Binny had at the topmost post in BCCI saw a lot of major events take place.
India first made it to the WTC final in 2023. They lost in an almost one-sided contest to Australia, which was a disappointing match for the fans. India then had an extremely dominant home World Cup at the end of 2023. However, that World Cup ended with one of the most disheartening finals, which India lost to Australia once again.

It was then in 2024 that India during Binny’s tenure broke the 13-year World Cup drought. They proudly won the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, making it captain Rohit Sharma‘s first ICC win as captain. However, the celebrations of the World Cup soon turned into dismay as India lost a home Test series for the first time since 2012. To make matters worse, India got whitewashed by New Zealand in that series.
India couldn’t recover from that as their tour to Australia was also a disappointing 5 Test matches as India could manage one victory, losing the series 3-1. Though the shattered faces at that point in Binny’s run, sprung into happiness as India denied odds to win the Champions Trophy in 2025.
Two back-to-back ICC trophies, and that has made India world leaders. What followed was some big retirements in the form of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin from Test cricket. These retirements made many fans glum as they could not imagine a team without the superstars.
However, the next gen Indian Test team traveled to England and gave them a tussle for the ages as India drew the series at 2-2. Binny’s run as president was a colorful one, seeing multiple ups and downs. There were moments of sadness, but they often were coupled with great happiness round the corner.
