SAFF Championship 2021: ‘We will adapt to everything that is thrown at us’ says Igor Stimac

India’s head coach Igor Stimac has clearly stated that India would take a realistic approach to their SAFF Championship opener against Bangladesh, rather than attempting to innovate. Stimac indicated that they will not have a predetermined strategy for the competition and will be prepared for any challenge that may arise.

“We will be playing a style which will bring us results. There was one counter-attack by Nepal in their match against the Maldives, and they won the game despite the Maldives being the better side. We don’t know what each game will bring to us on the plate. We will adapt to everything that is thrown at us,” said Igor Stimac.

Stimac further added that the team has been working hard to get all the data available to the players and also to encourage them ahead of their season opener. He claimed that players are being taken care of and the management is doing their best to prepare them for any challenges.

“We are trying to provide all necessary information to our players about our opposition and motivate ourselves. We came here four days before the tournament, and we have trained on artificial and natural grass. We are taking good care of the players, and explaining to them the possible situations,” added Stimac.

Players should enjoy the tournament without any nervousness, believes Igor Stimac

India have lifted the SAFF Championship on seven occasions and they will be looking to add another one to their record. They will be up against the Bangla Tigers who will be high on confidence after their victory against Sri Lanka. Also, India will be missing the services of their star defender Sandesh Jhinghan who is with his new Croatian first division club HNK Sibenik.

Stimac expects that his side will be prepared to compete with composure and not be anxious. He wants the players to enjoy the tournament with confidence and without nervousness.

“The players know what I’m expecting from them, and what their duties are. So I’m very confident and excited about this tournament and I really expect to enjoy this tournament and not have any nervousness. We are determined to represent India in a good manner and deliver what is expected from us on the pitch,” added Stimac.
