Pakistani opener Sahibzada Farhan’s controversial celebratory gesture after scoring a fifty against India in the ‘Super Fours’ stage of the 2025 Asia Cup, drew massive outrage on social media. The 29-year-old performed a ‘gun-firing’ motion with his bat, aiming it towards the Indian team dugout.
Sahibzada Farhan continued with his good form, scoring a half-century during the first innings of the ‘Super Four’ clash. The Men in Green, in an attempt to bounce back from the humiliating group stage defeat to their arch-rivals, once again were put to bat first. Riding on the back of Farhan’s gritty 58-run knock off 45 balls, which included five fours and three sixes, Pakistan posted a total of 171/5.
Farhan smashed the Indian bowlers during the powerplay, to help the Men in Green race to 91 runs after ten overs. The 29-year-old targeted ace India speedster Jasprit Bumrah, hitting him for four boundaries. Sahibzada Farhan reached the 50-run milestone in style with a maximum off spinner Axar Patel’s delivery, following which he celebrated with aggression, a move that left him in the middle of a major controversy.
Immediately after completing his half-century, Farhan seemingly turned towards the Indian dugout with his bat in hand, and made a controversial gesture. He mimicked a ‘gun-firing’ gesture, shaping his bat like an AK-47 and aiming shots toward the crowd and the dugout.
It instantly set social media on fire, given Farhan’s celebration came after the devastating April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, which claimed 26 innocent Indian lives, also bringing the two countries at the brink of a full-scale conflict.

This is how sahibzada farhan celebrated his half century, signifying his bat as Ak 47 and pointing it towards Indian Dug out.

Fans tore into Sahibzada Farhan’s act, noting that the BCCI should refrain from hosting matches against Pakistan, given the lack of mutual self-respect from the opponents. A few others slammed the BCCI and the Indian team for its decision to go ahead with the match, claiming that Farhan’s celebration was a ‘mockery’ of the slain Indian army officers, who died during the recent clashes.

It also adds fuel to the ongoing India-Pakistan Asia Cup ‘handshake’ controversy. To continue with it, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav once again refused to shake hands with Pakistani skipper Salman Ali Agha after the coin toss.
India’s Poor Fielding Show Against Pakistan, Three Catches Dropped in High-Stakes Asia Cup Clash
The Men in Blue had a poor outing on the field against Pakistan in the high-voltage 2025 Asia Cup clash. Three catches were dropped by the Indian fielders during the first innings of the match, as they seemed to have butter fingers from the very first over itself.

The horror show started with Abhishek Sharma dropping Sahibzada Farhan’s catch in the opening over, off a delivery bowled by Hardik Pandya. The 25-year-old misjudged the catch at third man, and instead ended up leaving the ball while attempting to dive forward. This gave opener Farhan a much-needed lifeline, as he went on to top-score with an impressive 58 off 45 balls.
Next up, in the fifth over, Kuldeep Yadav dropped Saim Ayub’s catch at short fine-leg. Abhishek Sharma handed Sahibzada Farhan another lifeline in the eighth over, after he dropped a catch at long-on. The wicket-keeper batter raced down the track to hit the ball over the fence, but it fell short. Sharma, running in from the right, tried to get hold of the ball but ended up tipping it over the rope to give a six.
It all lasted until the 11th over of the innings when Abhishek earned his retribution by taking hold of Saim Ayub’s catch, off Shivam Dube’s delivery. While Sharma’s fielding display might have been hard to digest, he had a good showing with bat, scoring a match-winning 74 runs during the chase.
