The New Orleans Saints are moving in a different direction, and the first order of business they did was to clean up the coaching staff. Now they have installed Kellen Moore as their head coach, fresh off his Super Bowl LIX win with the Philadelphia Eagles. Prior to that job, Moore worked under Brandon Staley back at the Los Angeles Chargers.
If one were to look at his resume, he stayed just one season with the Chargers. That is because at the end of the season, they fired Brandon Staley. He was responsible for a disappointing 5-9 record despite having a solid team under him. He was expected to be a defensive master, but the Chargers that season were horrible defensively.
One could say that his additional responsibilities as a head coach undermined his ability to work with his defensive players. Maybe that was the reason now he gets another job at that position. ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news earlier.

Brandon Staley‘s reputation as a defensive wizard was what got him the Chargers HC job. He replaced the legendary Wade Phillips as the Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator in 2020. He led that defense to first in points and total yards allowed. That is why some in the league rate him highly as a DC.

Football fans are not convinced of this hiring. Many believe Brandon Staley was one of the reasons the Los Angeles Chargers had three straight disappointing seasons. Neither did he carry his ability to coach a defense from the cross-town Rams, nor did he elevate the team as a good head coach should.
With that being his recent achievements, fans found it hard to digest that he has found a job in the NFL. Moreover, they were shocked at what looked like nepotism, as Moore essentially got his former boss a job. Check out examples of such social media fan comments below.

Brandon Staley might defy the odds and make the New Orleans Saints’ defense a unit to reckon with. That along with Kellen Moore‘s play calling could help the team return to winning form. If that happens, their record itself will justify those hirings.
The Saints are already undergoing a tough time. Reports accuse the ownership of helping the Catholic Church help cover up a scandal. There is a saying that winning cures everything. Maybe owner Gayle Benson is hoping that these hirings will help shift the focus of fans to the team’s performances.
