Salman Butt feels Virat Kohli’s 71st international century is round the corner

Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt feels that India skipper Virat Kohli might soon end the drought of his 71st international century. The ‘Modern Master’ has reached phenomenal heights in his career and already has 70 international hundreds to his name. Kohli’s this record amongst many puts him far ahead of all active players at the moment.

However, Kohli’s last international century came back in November 2019 during the one-off home Test series against Bangladesh. The 32-year old played an outstanding knock of 136 in a winning cause for his side. But Kohli has failed to amass a hundred runs since then, despite playing many matches. Although, the Delhi cricketer has still scored plenty of runs and averages 50+ across all formats.

In a recent video uploaded on his Youtube channel, Butt responded to the question – ‘Can Virat cross his mental barriers at ICC events like World Test Championship and T20 World Cup?’ The former Pakistani batsman feels that he might cross this mental barrier during India’s next assignment at the all-important World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand.

“He’s broken so many barriers already. Who could have thought that a boy in his age will get 70 centuries? Who would have that he would become as fit as he is today, or carry the kind of form that he has? He has a strike rate of 90 in chases, an average of over 50 in all three formats. Who would have thought? These are barriers he’s already crossed. Who can stop him from crossing this barrier? In fact, he can do it in the next match or the next series itself,” Butt said.

‘If he doesn’t get a century, we think he hasn’t scored at all’

The 36-year old mentioned that Virat Kohli has set such high standards for himself that if he doesn’t get a century, we think he hasn’t scored at all.

“He hasn’t scored a century in more than a year but just look at the runs he’s still scored. If he doesn’t get a century, we think he hasn’t scored at all. I think he has all the credentials to do it and it’s just a matter of time,” said Butt.
