India vs England 2021: “There were shades of MS Dhoni in his knock” – Jos Buttler speaks on Sam Curran’s knock
Sam Curran
Sam Curran nearly pulled off a stunning chase for England in the third ODI against India yesterday when scored 95* but fell just 7 runs short of leading his side to a spectacular victory. Coming in to bat with nearly no hope for England, the southpaw put on partnerships first with Adil Rashid and Mark Wood to keep the scoreboard ticking and to get England near the target of 330 set by India.
Thanks to his fireworks, the equation came down to just 23 runs required off 18 balls. However, three excellent overs followed from the Indian bowlers which meant Curran fell short despite his valiant effort. The youngster will now look to continue his strong performances in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season where he will once again play for MS Dhoni‘s Chennai Super Kings.
Jos Buttler speaks on Sam Curran
England skipper Jos Buttler spoke about Sam Curran’s knock and how it resembled MS Dhoni’s approach to chases at a virtual press conference. “I’m sure Sam would want to talk to MS about tonight’s innings. I’m sure there were shades of the way that he (MS Dhoni) would have liked to take the game down if he was in that situation. He’s a great person for Sam to have a conversation with when he meets up MS (in the IPL),” he said.
Speaking about how much Curran can learn from Dhoni in the IPL, Buttler said, “We know what an amazing cricketer, finisher MS Dhoni is. A brilliant learning curve for all our players to share dressing rooms with guys like MS’ stature in the game. I’m very excited for them.”
Jos Buttler will feature for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL who will begin their campaign against the Punjab Kings on the 12th of April. Chennai Super Kings will face Delhi Capitals on the 10th of April.
