Being acquired by the Minnesota Vikings was the best thing that happened to Sam Darnold; and he believes he isn’t done yet. Even though they couldn’t earn the No. 1 seed in the conference by defeating the Detroit Lions, they are entering the postseason with a 14-3 record and fifth seed.

After losing Kirk Cousins, first to Achilles’ injury and then to the Atlanta Falcons, the Vikings portrayed the most impressive turnaround this season. And if there’s anyone most deserving of the success, it’s quarterback Darnold. His contribution to the team, along with his outstanding individual achievement of ranking fifth in the league for statistics, led PFT to designate him the Most Improved Player of the Year.

As he continues to find his name in the glory, Darnold wants to build his legacy before the 2024-25 season continues. Preparing for his first game of the postseason, Darnold opened up about his plans to bring home a Super Bowl this season, hoping it would engrave his name among the legends.

It’s kind of where legacies, I guess, are made. Not just winning games, but winning those later games like AFC, NFC championships, winning Super Bowls. That’s how you’re going to be remembered.

Sam Darnold said in his interview with Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Despite the defeat of Week 18, the Vikings as well as the Lions head coach Dan Campbell has confidence in Darnold’s ability to bounce back with a victory against the Los Angeles Rams in the wild-card round and advance to the divisional round.

Kevin O’Connell to get Sam Darnold ready for playoffs amid competition from Daniel Jones

After Darnold’s poor performance against the Lions, his position as starting in the playoffs is speculated to be uncertain. Although head coach Kevin O’Connell ascertained that the first choice is definitely Darnold, his high praise for newly-acquired Daniel Jones raised some eyebrows.

He definitely has progressed. He’s gotten a lot of really good work in both running scout team looks, and then just extra work here and there um when we can with Josh [McCown]. The best way I could put it is we’re doing everything we can to get Sam ready to go.

Having said that, he added that the team is strategizing in the best way to gain the best chance of winning against the Rams. However, O’Connell later assured fans that Darnold’s approach towards success has brought the team the glory of 14 wins in the regular seasons and they aspire to keep the momentum alive in the playoffs.
