“Has Dak ever had a year…” Sam Darnold’s unreal season has analyst trashing Dak Prescott
Sam Darnold having a terrific year leads Colin Cowherd to question logic of paying Dak Prescott league leading money.

Sam Darnold is having a Cinderella-type year with the Minnesota Vikings. He is one win away from helping his team win the NFC and earn a first-round playoff bye. Those performances have made many question the logic of overpaying QBs, with Dak Prescott especially getting heat from a longtime analyst.
Prescott is the highest paid player in NFL history after signing his contract extension that will pay him $60 million for the next four seasons. When he signed that deal, many wondered what he did to earn that exorbitant number.
On one hand, in nine seasons as the starter for the Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott has had one 13-win season. At the same time, Darnold’s Vikings currently sit at 14-2. To make matters worse, he is earning one-sixth of what the Cowboys QB earns. That led Colin Cowherd to say this on The Herd.
Dak looked great in the preseason. Dak’s talented, Dak’s a starter. But has Dak ever had a year that looks like Darnold? Not to me.

With this analogy, Colin Cowherd was putting forward the notion that the Vikings may not pay Sam Darnold Dak Prescott money. But he worked out better for them than Prescott has for the Cowboys. He added that Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell was already high on Darnold’s abilities even before he landed.
Colin Cowherd wants Vikings to move on from JJ McCarthy and pay Sam Darnold
Colin Cowherd firmly believes the Minnesota Vikings had a plan and now their plan is coming to fruition aided by the untimely injury to JJ McCarthy. The analyst believes that that plan includes moving their rookie so that they can recoup some of the draft picks if they are to pay Sam Darnold good money.

I think deep down, they are strongly considering moving him. The Vikings cannot pay Darnold a fortune and have no draft picks. I think JJ McCarthy in a weak draft, I think Minnesota has leverage.
Colin Cowherd said
Colin Cowherd was referring to Adam Schefter‘s words where he suggested the Vikings could entertain trade talks for JJ McCarthy. In a weak QB draft class, teams with needs could offer them close to what they gave up in order to move up places to draft McCarthy.
The team might franchise-tag Sam Darnold next season to see if he can replicate this year’s form. If he does replicate, they will then have to pay him an enormous amount of money. Once a team does that, the possibilities of holding on to other high-priced stars reduces greatly.
Which means, the team will need to supplement the loss of good players with prospects in the draft. Considering they don’t have many of that next season, Cowherd believes it would be wise to trade away JJ McCarthy.
