Even though the Seattle Seahawks traded in Sam Howell this offseason, their starter remains Geno Smith. However, it seems to bother Howell that the franchise hasn’t been proactive with him and has rather taken a back seat.

Despite starting 17 games with the Washington Commanders, Howell chose to join the Seahawks, who showed great confidence in him and didn’t draft any quarterback. However, since then, the quarterback hasn’t been confirmed the position he would be playing in.

When Howell joined Seattle, he agreed upon the backup role to their star quarterback, Smith. But if that would be the case, the Seahawks haven’t told him that or much of anything– which left the quarterback confused as he spoke to the reporters during a recent press conference.

Honestly, not much--They just tell me to keep working and just keep trying to get better every single day and I’m taking it one day at a time and I really don’t worry too much about the future or what plans they might have for me just because nobody really knows.

Despite the uncertainties, the former Commanders QB is moving forward with a positive mindset, taking one step at a time as he says. Regardless of what position he plays in, he is willing to give his best and happy with being part of Seattle’s offense.

Speaking of offense, Howell was also asked about how he is adjusting to the new offense led by Offensive Coordinator Ryan Grubb. He responded by drawing similarities between Grubb and the Commanders’ OC Eric Bieniemy, sharing that both of their offense were quarterback-friendly.

He expressed his willingness to play in the Seahawks’ offense, as it’s quite similar to his former team, where he focused on his aggression and pushing the ball down the field.

That’s kind of similar to what I’ve done in the past and it’s definitely the offense that I feel like I want to play in
Sam Howell added

Even though the Seahawks are moving forward with Smith in the lead, with a new coaching staff in place, they would focus on with whom the team stands their best chances. If Howell succeeded in making an impact when he gets on the field, there’s a high chance that Seattle would move forward with him in the lead.
