On 29th August 2024, the Gaudreau brothers, Johnny and Matthews, lost their lives in an accident. Ever since then, fans have been grieving for his loss. This week’s Raw was in Calgary, Canada, and WWE made sure to pay tribute to the NHL stars. As such, Calgary-born wrestler Sami Zayn walked into the ring with a respectful gesture to pay homage to Johnny Gaudreau.

Sami Zayn, who had an interesting segment this week on Raw, donned the No. 13 Calgary Flames’ Gaudreau jersey. The NHL winger wore the same jersey for nine seasons in his career. It was a courteous move by the Canadian Superstar. As he was making his way to the ring, “Johnny” chants echoed throughout the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Moreover, this tribute by the 40-year-old got the crowd behind Sami as they cheered for him throughout the segment. It was a big night for Sami, as he also interacted with his childhood hero, Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart. The former stood up against the disrespect of the Hall of Famer by Gunther.

Zayn has been after The Ring General for two weeks now. He wants to have a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship, but Gunther has continuously shot down his challenge. Therefore, it is going to be interesting to see if Sami will be able to get what he wants from the Austrian superstar in the weeks to come.

Sami Zayn commented on what transpired on Raw

Sami Zayn had a brave showing this week on Raw. He exchanged a few punches with Gunther and even gained the upper hand. Following Raw, the former Intercontinental Champion spoke in an interview where he talked about his plans from here on.

Speaking on Raw Talk, Zayn said that listening to Bret Hart has lit a fire in his heart. He added that he represents hard work, and he wants to honor the legacy of the Canadian legend. Sami revealed that he felt emotional while wearing Gaudreau’s jersey.

You actually caught me at a really strange time because I’m feeling really emotional, to be honest. I’m wearing this jersey, not because I’m a Flames fan, everyone knows I’m a Canadiens guy, but to honor Johnny Gaudreau, who tragically passed away. I don’t know, it just makes you think about the time you have here and what you do with it.

He opened up about the tragic passing of Johnny. The 40-year-old star said that he feels honored to be someone who has the stage to pay respect. Everything stays here, and all that matters is the memories and the moments one creates in this lifetime, averred Zayn.
