The ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 has become intense. India won the first match in Perth comprehensively by 295 runs, and Australia came back strongly in the second Test match at the Adelaide Oval by winning the match by 10 wickets. They were also in the driver’s seat in the third Test match in Brisbane.

However, weather interruptions and rain led to the match being ended in a draw. The fourth Test match will be played at the MCG on December 26.

Former India player and batting coach Sanjay Bangar has revealed what India needs to do so that they win the BGT. He feels that India needs to post a big total in the first innings of the upcoming two Test matches, as scoring big in the first innings of overseas Test matches is very important.

Bangar stated that Indian batters have done a lot of hard work, and now they just need to put their confidence in their skills.

The resolution should be that we need to score big runs in the first innings. To score big runs in the first innings, your top order will have to score runs because first-innings runs have huge significance in overseas Test matches. I feel you are in a position where you have done a lot of hard work. Now you have to relax a little, trust your skill sets, and score big runs in the first innings. If we can do that resolution, I don’t think anyone in the Australian team can even try to touch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Sanjay Bangar said during a discussion in a Star Sports show Game Plan

India have struggled to post a big total in the first innings of all three Test matches. The top order has struggled a lot, and this has put a huge amount of pressure on the middle and the lower middle order. The top four need to get going in the first innings at the MCG.

Cheteshwar Pujara feels that the Indian bowling attack is looking weak in this BGT

During the same interaction, veteran India batter Cheteshwar Pujara felt that the Indian bowling attack is not looking as strong as they did on the last two tours of Australia. He said that the lower middle order has scored runs, but no one has been able to keep up the pressure from the other end of Jasprit Bumrah.

My first biggest question and slight reason for concern is that the Indian bowling is looking slightly weak. The batting has improved a little. The top five have not batted well but the middle order and lower-middle order have done that.

Australia have not won the BGT since the home series in 2014/15. They have lost four on the trot since then (2 at home and 2 away from home). India just need one win from the remaining two Tests to retain the BGT. If they win both, they will qualify for the WTC 2025 final without depending on anyone else.
