Lucknow Super Giants owner, Sanjiv Goenka, has broken his silence on the recent reports stating that Rohit Sharma‘s price will be INR 50 crore in the upcoming IPL mega auction.

Goenka stated that he is not sure whether Mumbai Indians will be releasing the former captain in the auction pool. He even said that paying about half of the franchise’s budget on one player in the auction is not a practical approach and will cause problems in framing the rest of the squad.

Do you even know if Rohit Sharma is entering the auction? This is all unnecessary. It all depends on whether Mumbai Indians release Rohit Sharma or not. And even if Rohit comes to auction... if you put 50 per cent of your purse on one player, how will you buy other play? Everyone wishes to have the best captain and best players.
Goenka said during an interview with SportsTak

Sharma was removed from the position of captain by Mumbai Indians ‘without’ any discussion. The franchise bought Hardik Pandya back and appointed him as the captain. The decision created huge controversy and enraged the Indian fans, who abused the franchise and Pandya throughout IPL 2024. Reports even revealed that all is not well between the franchise and Sharma. Some reports even claim that the Hitman has requested Mumbai Indians to release him in the auction pool in IPL 2025 mega auction.

Rohit Sharma has led Mumbai Indians to 5 IPL titles

Sharma has been in the franchise since 2011 and was appointed as the captain in 2011. He is the most successful captain in IPL history along with MS Dhoni, having led Mumbai Indians to 5 IPL titles. Sharma also went on to lead India to the trophy in the 2024 T20 World Cup and announced his retirement from the format after the final. However, he will continue to play his part in the IPL. It is not sure whether he will play further role in the MI colors.

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants came into the IPL in 2022. They have qualified for the playoffs in the first two seasons but failed to qualify in 2024. They have recently appointed Zaheer Khan as the mentor of the side after losing Gautam Gambhir ahead of IPL 2024.
