Youngster Sanju Samson failed to capitalize on yet another opportunity given to him in the limited-overs cricket. He played all three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches during the recently-concluded series against Australia. However, the Kerala-born could not impress with his willow as he scored just 48 runs in three innings.

Former spinner Harbhajan Singh backed Samson, calling him the future of Indian cricket. The veteran cricketer reckoned that he is still in his early career days, and will learn with time.

“Sanju has got the opportunity to bat at No.4. He is still on his first or second tour, he will learn. We know that he has got the potential and India won the series,” Harbhajan Singh was quoted as saying by India Today.

“These guys will be the future of Indian cricket. You know if they will not make mistakes, they will not learn. I am sure Sanju Samson, with the quality he has, is going to learn and get better from here,” he added.

‘Samson must ensure making it count’

Harbhajan Singh warned Sanju Samson that he could be soon replaced if he doesn’t start making his chances count. The 40-year old stated that the number 4 spot is a crucial one for India in any format of the game.

“If he will not learn obviously someone else will come and take that slot. Because no.4 is a very crucial slot. If you have got the opportunity, you have to seal it. If not on this tour but next tour, you have to come better prepared and make sure you make it count,” Harbhajan said.
