Sanju Samson created history as he became the first Indian batter and the fourth overall to score two T20I centuries in consecutive matches. However, all was not well with Samson before as he struggled to get his spot in the team fixed. He was given very few matches with gaps and hence he did not get the confidence and security in the team. However, recently Samson talked about how India’s new T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, gave him the confidence and backing.
Samson was promoted to open the innings in the three-match home T20I series against Bangladesh and he smashed a century in the third and final match of the series. The Kerala batter recalled that when he was playing in the Duleep Trophy ahead of the T20I series against Bangladesh, Yadav gave him confidence and said that he would get the next seven matches to open the innings for the team (the three matches against Bangladesh and the four T20Is against South Africa).
Sanju Samson said, "when I was playing Duleep Trophy, Surya was playing for the other team and during the match itself, he told me 'Chetta, agla 7 match tera hain opening mein', (you are going to open in next 7 matches). Whatever happens, I will fully back you". (JioCinema). pic.twitter.com/ae4sRSxeCE

Earlier, Samson also talked about how the Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir, believed in his talent. The former Indian opener has always been a man who has praised Samson and when the captain and coach of the team gives one confidence, they are bound to perform well.
Sanju Samson scored 107 runs off 50 deliveries in Durban
Team India won the first T20I against South Africa in Durban by 61 runs and much of that was due to Samson’s brilliant century. After Aiden Markram won the toss and put India to bat first, Samson amassed 107 runs off 50 deliveries with seven fours and 10 sixes.
He had a strike-rate of 214 and became the joint Indian batter with Rohit Sharma to hit the most number of sixes in a T20I innings.
Indian bowlers defended the total with ease as they dismissed South Africa for just 141 runs in 17.5 overs. Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi picked up three wickets each. Avesh Khan scalped two wickets and Arshdeep Singh managed to pick one wicket. Samson was adjudged as the Player Of The Match for his exploits.
