Looks like, besides honing his skills for the upcoming big game, Saquon Barkley is also reflecting on the past as he prepares to face the Swifties, who are passionately rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs. However, by emphasizing Taylor Swift’s past ties to Philadelphia, the star running back made a case for them to back the Philadelphia Eagles instead of the Chiefs.
After the popstar began dating Travis Kelce, it was revealed that she and the Chiefs head coach Andy Reid go way back. As a child, her father, Scott Swift would take her to practice sessions where Reid was the head coach at the time, being an Eagles fan. This history adds an intriguing layer to the upcoming Super Bowl, and that’s exactly what Barkley is trying to leverage.
While talking to the media on Wednesday, the MVP finalist sent a special message to the Swifties– known to be one of the most aggressive celebrity fanbases, to influence their allegiance toward the Eagles as the “Midnight” singer was herself an Eagles fan before she fell in love with the Chiefs star.
“She was an Eagles fan her whole life. I think the Swifties should come to our side,” argued Barkley.

Although it is a long shot, Barkley has all the intentions to get the Swifties on his side. Interestingly, they do have a soft spot for Philly, not because of “Mother” Swift, but also due to her boyfriend’s brother, Jason Kelce. He was deeply moved by the support from the Swifties during his emotional retirement announcement in 2024.
Taylor Swift confirms Eagles reference in “Gold Rush” at concert
The 14-time Grammy winner, as well, has spoken on her ties to the Eagles during her prominent Eras Tour concert held in Philadelphia in 2023. She was responding to a wild debate on the lyrics of Gold Rush song from the 2020 album Evermore, specifically for the line “my Eagles t-shirt hanging from the door.”
By that time, her relationship with Kelce was not made public, leading fans to speculate whether she was referencing the NFL team or the rock band, The Eagles, in her song. The global star clarified this while performing in Philadelphia.
Though it was influenced by her father during her childhood, the “Lover” singer grew up as a fan of the Eagles, especially since she grew up in Pennsylvania. Before Travis came into her life, she was an Eagles head which makes the upcoming match even more intriguing as it may influence her allegiance between the two teams.
