Saquon Barkley knew he was going to face questions about his former team, the New York Giants, after reaching the Super Bowl with his current side, the Philadelphia Eagles. Barkley’s relationship with the Giants ended on a sour note because he chose the Eagles, a team the New York natives hate.
Barkley gave everything to the Giants and wanted due compensation in return. Instead of honoring the running back’s wishes, the Giants brass franchise tagged him to stay in the Big Apple for the 2023 season.
The Giants finished last in their division. Barkley made up his mind to leave even though owner John Mara was against the move. However, the Eagles gave Barkley $26 million in guaranteed money on a three-year contract, which could rise up to $46.75 million with all the incentives.
Barkley discussed with his family the pros and cons of moving to Philadelphia.
The only con about Philly was I might get some slack because I played in New York… but I got nothing but love for them [Giants fans].

He wasn’t wrong. From fans to former Giants players such as Tiki Barber criticized Barkley’s move to the Eagles. Barber even called the Pro Bowl rusher a traitor for joining the enemy.
The highlight of the entire fiasco was when Barkley went back to New York and received intense booing for wearing the green of Philly. In reply, he rushed for 170+ yards and scored one touchdown, destroying the Giants 28-3.
There’s a reason why when I go out there and I’m getting booed, I didn’t remove myself from the moment. I stayed locked in the whole time.

Saquon Barkley rooted against the Eagles in Super Bowl LVIII
Barkley was a true blue before his nation turned green. Even when the Eagles reached the Super Bowl in 2022, he cheered against the Eagles.

It was the Eagles who knocked the Giants out in the divisional round that year. In a recent press conference, the 27-year-old revealed that he wanted the Kansas City Chiefs to win.
Of course I was rooting against them. They knocked us out of the playoffs at that time. So yeah, there was no part of me that wanted the Eagles to win. But it’s funny to look back on it now.
