Czech tennis sensation Sara Bejlek has become the latest addition to her country’s unbelievable tennis heritage. The Czech Republic recently made the headlines with an all-Czech Wimbledon final between Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova. Now, Bejlek is the latest addition.

After making her sensational breakthrough at the Cincinnati Open, she was asked about her biggest source of inspiration. Bejlek named Rafael Nadal as her greatest reference in this regard. She said on Tennis Channel:

Rafa Nadal was the great reference that inspired me a lot. I watched him when I was little, and he was the one who motivated me the most, without a doubt.

Nadal is considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time and has inspired many players on the ATP and WTA Tours. Iga Swiatek has never hidden her admiration for him. Many of the ATP and WTA players were present at Nadal’s farewell tribute at Roland Garros last year.

Bejlek is another leftie who has shown her admiration. Before her, it was Alex Eala, who is a left-hander just like her. Eala was a graduate of the Rafael Nadal Tennis Academy in 2023. She was spotted alongside Nadal and Swiatek at her graduation ceremony.

Sara Bejlek advances to the Cincinnati Open semifinals

Czech youngster Sara Bejlek produced another major upset at the Cincinnati Open, defeating American Madison Keys to book her place in the semi-finals. The victory marks her first appearance in the last four of a WTA 1000 event.

The 20-year-old unseeded player has enjoyed a remarkable tournament, defeating three Grand Slam champions along the way. Her earlier victories included world number one Aryna Sabalenka and former champion Barbora Krejcikova.

Bejlek overcame Keys 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in a thrilling quarter-final that lasted two hours and 37 minutes. She is now aiming to add another title to the Abu Dhabi Open trophy she won in February.

After losing the opening set and falling 3-1 behind in the second, Bejlek dramatically turned the match around by winning five of the next six games. She then recovered from a 4-2 deficit in the final-set tie-break to secure the victory and set up a semi-final against fourth seed Coco Gauff.

This new venture builds upon the massive success of his flagship academy, which the Spaniard originally opened in his home village in Mallorca back in 2016 alongside his long-term rival and friend, Roger Federer.

Over the years, the Mallorca academy has successfully developed numerous elite prospects who have gone on to thrive on the professional tour, with Casper Ruud and Alexandra Eala standing out as prime examples.

Following his official retirement from professional tennis in 2024, this state-of-the-art facility in Lombok serves as yet another powerful addition to his enduring legacy in the sport.
