Sarita Mor clinched gold at the Asian Wrestling Championship on Thursday after an assured display of high-quality wrestling. Competing in the 59 kg category, Mor had got off to a bad start as she lost her opening round match to Shoovdor Baatarjav by a narrow margin. Shaking off the rustiness, she then came up with some impressive displays to storm into the final of the event before facing Baatarjav in the final yet again.

In the final, she scripted an amazing comeback from 6 points down to win the event. Sarita was down by a scoreline of 1-7 after a poor start. She then produced a stunning exhibition to take 9 points in a row and win gold. Meanwhile, Seema Bisla and Pooja won the bronze medal in their respective categories by winning their respective bronze medal bouts following losses in the semi-final.

ON being asked as to whether the win was consolation for her after not coming good in the 57 kg category which is an Olympic category, she said, “No, I am doing well in 57kg. I won a silver in the recent Ranking Series event in 57kg. It’s just unfortunate that I could not make the cut at 57kg Olympic trails. I am confident I would have done ever better… I feel strong in both the categories.”
