Sauce Gardner’s vows of a New York Jets ‘culture change’ mean nothing unless they win a game

The New York Jets may not be the worst New York team, but their Sauce Gardner-led defense has been dreadful, costing them multiple games.

The New York Jets drafted players like Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Breece Hall and brought veterans Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams to have a change in the culture, by installing the winners mentality. The addition hardly made much difference considering the Jets are 3-10 and without a playoff appearance for 14 years.

No one expected the Jets to world beaters at the start of the year, but hardly anyone predicted the Big Apple franchise to be in such a dire situation. The latest defeat in overtime against divisional rivals, the Miami Dolphins, stung the most. Even after taking the lead, the Jets’ defense failed to hold on.

Gardner missed the Dolphins game due to a sore hamstring, but after watching the tape, he realized the defense, especially the secondary, let the team down.

Aaron [Rodgers], Davante [Adams], the running backs, the receiver, tight ends, the O-line… All of them did more than enough to win us that game. But as a defense, we got to be able to play complementary football.

The former first-round pick felt bad for the fans who cheer for the team but have to witness a loss.

We got fans that pay money, season ticket holders, and at the end of the day we’re still losing, so they probably feel like they’re just wasting money… I don’t want to keep losing. I want to do whatever it takes so we can turn it around and it is what it is.

Will Sauce Gardner play against the Jacksonville Jaguars?

The Jets’ secondary was not on par with the usual standards in the Dolphins’ loss, with Gardner missing. He battled a hamstring injury, but he is likely to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 15.

When asked about whether he still feels a strain on his hamstring, Gardner replied he felt fine.

It wasn’t severe… That’s why I’m already back this week. [Last] Sunday, yeah, I did feel kind of like, kind of close.

The Jets are currently on a four-game losing streak, but there’s a good chance they may not win anymore with the run of games to end the season. After playing against the Jaguars’ they have to face the 7-6 Los Angeles Rams and the reverse fixtures against playoff-qualified 10-3 Buffalo Bills and the Dolphins on the last day.
