“Scariest moment I’ve had on a tennis court” – ‘This’ is the Most-Watched video of Rafael Nadal in 2020
The World No.2, Rafael Nadal, has achieved a momentous feat in 2020. He equalled Roger Federer’s record of 20 Grand Slam titles. Nadal did so when he downed the World No.1, Novak Djokovic in straight sets in Paris. Further, the Spaniard claimed his 13th Roland Garros title in magnificent fashion.
Even so, the most-watched video of Rafa came about when an initially terrifying moment turned into a sweet one, owing to the Spaniard’s countenance at the Australian Open 2020.
Rafa’s Courteous Gesture
At the first Major of the year, Rafa was en route to claim a straight-sets victory over Federico Delbonis in the second round. After being 6-3, 7-6 up, the Spaniard was leading 4-1 in the third, when a blood-curdling incident occurred.
A ball ricocheted off of Nadal’s racquet to mistakenly hit a ball girl. This resulted in a grave silence in the stadium due to the injuries that can be caused from this. As soon as it happened, the World No.2 ran down from his end of the court to make sure to girl was alright.
Inspite of the girl’s assurance through a ‘thumbs up,’ Rafa inspected where the ball hit her. In his European gentlemanly way, he lifted her cap and planted a kiss on her cheek to apologise.
This act brought upon an immense reaction from the crowd. Moreover, in his post-match interview, Nadal stated, “she’s a brave girl.” He even gave her his headband after the match concluded. Not only this, Rafa went on to meet her and her family.
On twitter, the tennis ace wrote, “So happy she is well after the scariest moment I’ve had on a tennis court. Annita is a brave girl!”
After reaching the semis in 2019, Nadal will aim to add another title at the Australian Open 2021.
