2-time All-Star Cody Bellinger may have to wait a bit more longer to land a new deal. As per recent reports, no team has so far “come close” to matching Scott Boras’ demands regarding him.
Bellinger, the former National League MVP, spent the 2025 season with the New York Yankees. After having a career resurgence at the Chicago Cubs, the former Los Angeles Dodgers star made his way through the Bronx following a trade deal.
After losing Juan Soto in the free agency market, the Yankees turned to alternative options and roped in Bellinger by trading away relief pitcher Cody Poteet in December 2024.
The outfielder, who had been under the radar of the Yankees for a long time, had an impressive season with the bat in 2025. He hit 29 home runs and had 98 RBIs in 152 games while having a .272/.334/.480 slash line. As for the offseason, Bellinger went 6-for-28 and batted with a .214 average. In this, he managed to hit just 1 home run and had 4 RBIs.
The 30-year-old had a $25 million salary guaranteed for the 2026 season. However, after the Yankees’ American League Division Series (ALDS) loss against the Toronto Blue Jays, he opted out of his deal in favor of the $5 million buyout.
Since then several teams have been linked with him. Even the Dodgers, who non-tendered him in 2022, have been reported to keep an eye out for him.
While the Yankees are considered as favorites to land him, a recent report from Jack Curry of YES Network has left some people stunned. As per him, no team has so far “come close” to matching the demands set by Scott Boras, the agent of Bellinger.

As per rumors, Boras and Bellinger are seeking an 8-year, $400 million deal. This would see him have an Average Annual Value (AAV) of nearly $50 million.
The chances of this demands being met seem unlikely at the moment. Many expect Cody Bellinger’s next deal to be near $200 million or below.
Brian Cashman recently claimed Cody Bellinger will be a great fit for Yankees
While Cody Bellinger continues to attract several teams, the New York Yankees remain the favorites to bring him back. In the midst of his free agency saga, Yankees GM Brian Cashman recently claimed that he would be a “great fit” for the team.

The left-handed hitter showed off his impressive hitting and fielding capabilities last season. He would play in all three outfield positions and exceled in them.
While his agent Scott Boras called him a 5-tool player, Cashman called him a “very talented” player.
Cody Bellinger will be a great fit for us. I think he’d be a great fit for anybody. I think he is a very talented player that can play multiple positions at a high level, and hits lefties, hits righties. He’s a contact guy, and I think our enivornment and was a great one for him.

Previously, Cashman expressed that the team was very interested in bringing him back. For now, the team has some other major holes left to be filled on the roster.
A few days ago, the team lost Devin Williams. The closer, who joined the team through a trade from the Milwaukee Brewers last offseason, signed a 3-year, $51 million deal with the New York Mets.
On Wednesday, Luke Weaver followed in his footsteps. The 32-year-old became the latest player to go from the Yankees to the Mets following a 2-year, $22 million deal.
With Trent Grisham accepting the qualifying offer of the team and returning to them, the Bronx Bombers could turn their attention towards a pitcher first rather than splashing $400 million on Bellinger.
