Amidst the ongoing World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees, the name of Juan Soto has come into the spotlight. The left fielder, who currently plays for the Yankees, will hit free agency after the season. His agent Scott Boras has now made a wild claim.

The 26-year-old made a name for himself while playing for the San Diego Padres. After the 2023 season, speculations began to rise regarding his next move. The Padres would end up trading him to the Yankees in December.

Since his move to the Yankees, Soto has continued to impress the fans with his performances. Even during the ongoing World Series, he has been a huge force in the Yankees struggling offense. Despite this, there is no guarantee that he will re-sign with them next season.

Boras now dropped a huge claim regarding his future. As per the 71-year-old, Soto would still have been a Padre if Peter Siedler, the owner of the Padres, was still alive. This also comes at a time when reports of the Dodgers showing interest in him came out.

If Peter Seidler were still alive none of this would be happening. Juan would have been with the Padres. He never would have been traded to the Yankees. He’d be a Padre today.

Scott Boras said on Juan Soto’s future as per USA Today.

The MLB super agent further claimed that he and Siedler were deep into Soto’s contract extension talks. His illness was the reason why the talks stopped.

Siedler passed away at the age of 63 in November 2023. Three weeks later, Soto was traded to the Yankees along with Trent Grimshaw in exchange for Kyle Higashioka, Michael KingJhony BritoRandy Vasquez, and Drew Thorpe.

Padres insider labels claim of Scott Boras regarding Juan Soto as “psychological games”

Agent Scott Boras’ claim regarding Juan Soto‘s contract extension involving Peter Siedler has led to several discussions on social media. However, a Padres’ insider, Ben Higgins, claims this could be part of “psychological games” used by Boras to draw out big contracts for his client.

Speaking on the “Ben and Woods Show” along with Steven Woods and Paul Reindl, he discussed this on their 28th October show.

He (Boras) said he was deep in contract negotiations with the Padres and Peter to extend Soto and keep him in a Padres uniform, that Juan Soto would not have been traded had Peter Seidler still been alive, and went through this extensively, in what both you and I believe are just part of the psychological games that Scott Boras plays for his clients to try to extract maximum value approaching a major free agency.

Apart from that, the co-host of the show also claimed that this could not shed light on the incident. Woods also agreed with him and criticized the approach of Boras.

As per reports, Soto’s next contract could be similar to that of Shohei Ohtani. The Dodgers star penned down a 10-year, $700 million deal last year while deferring around $680 million of his salary until the end of his contract. Teams could take a similar approach with the Dominican international in the upcoming months.
