The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were dealt a blow when Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood pulled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season in order to focus on the Sheffield Shield and the international season for Australia. The Aussie had played in only 3 matches last year but was retained by the franchise as they chose to release just one overseas player in the retired Shane Watson.

Now, CSK will be on the lookout for a replacement. Hardus Viljoen could be favorite because of the fact that he is with the CSK camp as a net bowler. Meanwhile, there were rumors that Alex Hales could be signed before they were dismissed as an April Fool’s Day joke. Now, if a tweet which has hinted at the same is anything to go by, New Zealand all-rounder Scott Kuggeleijn could be the replacement.

Scott Kuggeleijn plays for the Northern Districts team in New Zealand’s Plunkett Shield tournament. He was set to play in the final round of matches for the side. However, the side has now confirmed that he would not be available due to his commitments with the IPL along with fellow IPL players Tim Seifert (KKR), Kane Williamson (SRH), Trent Boult (MI) and Mitchell Santner (CSK).

This tweet caught fans’ attention as Kuggeleijn had not been signed by any franchise. It is noteworthy that the all-rounder already played for the CSK franchise in 2019 when he was roped in as a replacement for the injured Lungi Ngidi. He played in two matches and picked up two wickets at an economy of 8.88.

CSK open their IPL campaign against Delhi Capitals on the 10th of April.
