Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen

One of the most recognizable combinations in NBA history is still Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan‘s explosive partnership. Together, they guided the Chicago Bulls to an unmatched period of supremacy in the 1990s and six NBA Championships. Despite their obvious relationship on the court, Pippen made an unexpected statement on a podcast.

Pippen recently made an appearance on the PBD Podcast where he spoke about his relationship with Jordan. He also talked about a variety of topics around the NBA and its different eras. Notably, Pippen stated that he would ‘choose an additional 100 million’ rather than winning a ring with Jordan in this NBA era.

Give me that 100 million. I got a Gold medal ring without Michael so that did mean a lot but yea definitely would have loved to play in this era.

On the PBD Podcast, Scottie Pippen said

Pippen and Jordan were the main forces behind the Bulls’ dynasty from 1987 to 1998. Their combined record was an incredible 514-177 regular season (.744 winning percentage) and 117-51 playoff (.696) record. The pair redefined the NBA’s benchmark for excellence by winning six titles in their heyday, showcasing their dominance during their prime years.

In addition, Pippen’s success extended beyond his partnership with Jordan. He maintained remarkable career averages of 16.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 2.0 steals per game during his 17-season career. His career wound down with the Trail Blazers and Rockets after his departure from the Chicago Bulls.

Scottie Pippen explains how he ‘wasn’t a close friend’ of Michael Jordan

Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan are commonly regarded as the best duo in NBA history. According to Pippen, they shared a great bond on the court, but not off it. Pippen has repeatedly stated over the past few years that he and MJ were not friends. He made the same statement regarding his friendship with Jordan during his most recent appearance on the PBD Podcast.

Michael is a very difficult person to deal with… Great teammate, but we just never were great friends… I guess the last three championships that we won, we trained together at his house, but other than that, we didn’t really put a lot of time in away from basketball.

Scottie Pippen said

Pippen disclosed that he only ever visited MJ’s house once, during his training sessions with Tim Grover. Given that Pippen hasn’t said anything flattering about MJ in the previous four years, it might be the product of years of a spoiled friendship or The Last Dance getting under his skin. No one knows the real reason behind their tainted relationship apart from the two legends themselves.
