Even the best can lose their cool. On Saturday during the third round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, World No.1 Scottie Scheffler boiled over in frustration. He would chop down his golf bag in anger following a poor shot midway through the round.

The 28-year-old is making just his second start of the year. Following a hand injury during Christmas, Scheffler was forced to sit out of some tournaments. He returned last week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am where he finished T9.

After scores of 69 and 66 in the first two rounds, the two-time WM Phoenix Open winner was looking to shoot a similar score to remain in contention for the tournament on the final day.

At the par-5 15th hole, Scottie Scheffler was disappointed with one of his shots. With Thomas Detry, the leader of the tournament being seven shots ahead of him at that stage, Scheffler would explode with anger.

He would take out his frustration on his golf bag while chopping it down with one of his clubs. He would then pick up his bag and continue the event. Check out the video regarding this incident from a post on X below:

Scheffler ended up making a bogey on this hole. However, the 2024 PGA Tour Player of the Year bounced back with two birdies on 17th and 18th hole to finish the round 3-under par with a score of 68.

Scottie Scheffler had an amazing season in 2024 where he won 9 times on the PGA Tour. Following that success, the golfer wants to achieve more and was thus left angry with his own performance at the 2025 WM Phoenix Open.

The video of him chopping down his golf bag in frustration has brought out some hilarious and mixed thoughts from the fans. Some fans were happy to see this side of him claiming that it showed he was indeed human while some made fun of his arrest at the PGA Championship last year.

One fan wrote, “Jail has changed him” while another wrote, “Not sure Meredith would approve this,” while reacting to this incident.

At the end of Round 3, Scheffler is T10 for the tournament while being 10-under and 8 strokes behind leader Thomas Detry. While it is not impossible, it will take a huge effort from him and a big collapse from the Belgium golfer for Scheffler to walk out as the winner of this event on Sunday.
