Scottie Scheffler claimed his 4th major championship win on Sunday as he won the 153rd Open Championship in dominant fashion. The golfer later turned down some ‘silly‘ comparisons with Tiger Woods.
The World No.1 dominated the proceedings from the start and was the 36-hole leader. Following a score of 67 in the third round, he was well placed for another victory.
Following 3 birdies in his opening 5 holes, Scheffler had seemingly clinched the championship. The American international went on to shoot a score of 68 on Sunday and walked as the winner with a score of 17-under par, 4 shots ahead of the runner-up, Harris English, to capture his 2nd major title of the year.

This dominating win of his once again ignited comparisons with Tiger Woods. In the press conference after the event, Scheffler would turn down such comparisons and expressed that it was ‘silly’ for them to compare him with the 15-time major champion.
I still think they’re a bit silly. Tiger won, what, 15 majors? This is my fourth. I just got one-fourth of the way there. I think Tiger stands alone in the game of golf.

Scheffler has been on a similar type of run to what Woods had back then. While he still has a long way to go, he seems to be on the right track. On Sunday, he did match an unbelievable record with the former World No.1.
Woods won his first major championship in 1997 at the Masters Tournament. His 4th major championship win came in 2000 when he won the Open Championship to complete the career grand slam. There was a total of 1,197 days between his 1st and 4th major wins.
Meanwhile, Scheffler won his first major title in 2022 at the Masters Tournament as well. His 4th major title on Sunday also came at the Open Championship. There is an exact difference of 1,197 days between his 1st and 4th major title wins as well.
Scheffler has now completed 3 legs of the career grand slam. A win at the U.S. Open would see him become just the 7th player to complete the career grand slam and win all 4 major championships.
Bryson DeChambeau praises Scottie Scheffler following historic win at 2025 Open Championship
Scottie Scheffler on Sunday took home the Champion Golfer of the Year title from the Royal Portrush as he won the 2025 Open Championship. After the event, Bryson DeChambeau would praise him for his win and spoke on how he used to beat Scheffler many times during their college days.

While Scheffler was the top-ranked player for the Texas Longhorns at the University of Texas at Austin, DeChambeau was playing at neighbouring Southern Methodist University in Dallas. During the press conference, the LIV Golf star insisted that he outlasted the reigning World No.1 several times.
Things have changed since then. While DeChambeau has been one of the top performers from LIV Golf, Scheffler has taken the golf world by storm in the past few years.
Scottie’s in a league of his own right now. I played with him a lot in college, and he was good but not that good. I beat him quite a bit. He’s figured out a lot of stuff since then.
Bryson DeChambeau said in the press conference
"I played with [Scottie] a bunch in college, and he was not that good, so he's figured out a lot of stuff since then." 😂

DeChambeau himself had a major turnaround at the Open this year. Following a horrific first-round showing where he carded a score of 78, the 2-time major champion fired a low score of 65 in the second round.
In the next two rounds, he shot scores of 68 and 64 and finished T10 with a score of 9-under par. A strong first-round showing could have made things interesting at the top of the leaderboard.
How much money did Scottie Scheffler bag from winning the Open Championship?
Scottie Scheffler claimed his 4th win of the year on Sunday as he emerged as the 2025 Open Championship winner. How much money did he bag though?

Unlike the other major championships, the Open Championship has a low prize purse. This year, the event had a $17 million purse prize with the winner getting $3.1 million.
Scheffler took home the winning cheque of $3.1 million from this purse on Sunday. Runner-up Harris English received $1,759,000 for his efforts. Meanwhile, Sebastian Soderberg, who finished bottom of the standings, got $38,900 from the purse.

Scheffler has now won over $19.1 million this year alone. His career earnings have also crossed the $90 million mark. He could soon become just the third player after Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy to earn over $100 million from playing on the PGA Tour.
