Even the very best struggle at times. Scottie Scheffler, the World No.1 golfer, had another poor start to the Ryder Cup as he went 0-2 and lost both of his matches. His performance on Friday saw him get brutally trolled on social media.

The American golfer has been the best player in the game over the past couple of years. He has won several times, captured 3 major championships while dominating the fields and igniting some great comebacks.

However, his form at the Ryder Cup in recent times has been underwhelming. In the 2023 edition, Scheffler and his playing partner, Brooks Koepka, were hammered away on Day 2 by the team of Ludvig Aberg and Viktor Hovland. The No.1 player in the world would break down in tears following this massive loss.

On Friday, Scheffler first paired up with Russell Henley in the foursomes match against Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick. Team Europe went 1UP on the first very hole. While Scheffler and Henley tied the next two holes, the duo of Aberg and Fitzpatrick ran away after that.

After the 6th hole, the Europeans were 3UP, and by the 12th hole, they blew aside the Americans by going 5UP. They ended up convincingly winning this match with a 5&3 score.

In the afternoon four-ball session, Scheffler teamed up with reigning U.S. Open champion J.J. Spaun to take on Jon Rahm and Sepp Straka. After going 1UP on the first hole, the Americans were unable to extend their lead.

The Europeans remained in cruise control and won the match 3&2 by being 3UP after 16 holes. Scheffler ended Friday losing both of his matches and failing to secure any points.

The 4-time major champion is now 0-4-2 in his last 2 Ryder Cups. All 4 of his losses have come with Europe finishing the match on the 16th hole or earlier.

Speaking of the Ryder Cup, Team Europe won the opening foursomes session while winning 3 out of the 4 matches. They also won the afternoon four-ball session with 2 wins and 1 tie. They led the Americans with a 5.5-2.5 score after the first day.

Scottie Scheffler matches unwanted Tiger Woods record following 0-2 start on Friday

Despite being dominant in regular golf events, Woods struggled a lot during his Ryder Cup days. Like some top athletes, the golf great has some unwanted records to his name.

On Friday, Scheffler became the first reigning World No.1 to lose both matches on the opening day since Woods in 2002. This is one record the current best player in the world would have wanted to avoid.

Scheffler now has a 2-4-3 record in the Ryder Cup while being 0-2-0 in the foursomes matches. Woods, on the other hand, has a 13-21-3 overall record and a 4-9-1 record in the foursomes.

The reigning PGA Tour Player of the Year will team up with Russell Henley again on Saturday. The duo will go up against Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland in the final foursomes match.
