World No.1 Scottie Scheffler recently opened up about his jail visit during the 2024 PGA Championship. The golfer looked back at the incident and recalled what was going through this head during that one day in May.
In the opening round, Scheffler carded a score of 4-under par. Having won the Masters Tournament for a 2nd time in his career the previous month, the American international was aiming to pull off another major win at the PGA Championship.
Very few would have imagined what would happen before the start of Round 2. As he tried to drive into the Valhalla Course, Scheffler was arrested by the police officials. There was huge traffic outside the golf course as a man had been killed in an accident.
The news of his arrest would send shockwaves across social media. Mugshots of him in an orange suit would go viral. He was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.
The golfer later returned to the course and carded a 5-under 66 score in the second round. He eventually finished the tournament T8 with scores of 73 and 65 in the third and fourth rounds, respectively.
Two weeks after the incident, all charges against Scheffler were dropped.
Earlier this week, he collaborated with Robby Berger, host of Bob Does Sports. During this, he opened up about this incident and his visit to jail.
They put me in, like, a holding cell… I could see a TV, and I saw myself on the TV. So that’s when I was like, “Holy smokes, it’s still spinning.” I’m like, “How the heck am I in here? But then I saw myself on the TV and then I saw they delayed it, and I was like, “Oh, maybe I’ll get out of here in time, and I can still play.

Fans would voice their support for Scheffler during this incident. Several people would wear t-shirts with the words “Free Scottie” and stand behind him.
While speaking with Berger, the 29-year-old mentioned that the reception he got on the 10th tee was the loudest he probably ever got from the fans.
Scottie Scheffler has another slow start at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
On Thursday, Scottie Scheffler took part in the first signature event of the year as he teed off at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He once again had a slow start to the tournament.

Last week, Scheffler had an opening round to forget. He carded a 1-over 73 score at the Waste Management Phoenix Open with 5 bogeys and 1 double bogey. This put him in the danger of missing the cut.
The World No.1, however, was able to turn his fortunes around. He bounced back with scores of 65, 67 and 64 to finish T3, one shot behind the play-off margin.

He once again had a slow start. In the opening round at the Pebble Beach Golf Course, he started the front nine with 2 bogeys and 1 birdie. On the back nine, he made 2 more bogeys before making a birdie on the final hole to finish the round with a score of 72.
The last time he shot par or worse to begin consecutive PGA Tour starts was in 2020. This took place at the 2020 Tour Championship and the Sanderson Farms event. Back then, he had zero PGA Tour wins.

Scheffler has 20 official PGA Tour wins since the last time he shot par or worse to begin consecutive PGA Tour starts.
Last time: 2020 Tour Championship, Sanderson Farms
Scheffler had started the year with a victory. In his first start of the season, he emerged as the winner at the American Express Championship and notched his 20th PGA Tour win.
For a second week running, the World No.1 will start the second round 10 shots behind the 18-hole leader. The golfer is looking to make it 18 straight top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour. He will need another strong bounce-back performance like last week for that to happen.
