World No.1 Scottie Scheffler had some harsh reality checks onthe PGA Tour – LIV Golf situation as the framework agreement is far from done. Speaking to the media on Wednesday on a pre-Masters appearance, Scheffler talked about the current divide in the game and who is responsible for the ongoing feud.
Scheffler admitted that he misses competing with guys like Jon Rahm, and Bryson DeChambeau since their defect to LIV Golf. However, he believes the current divide in the game is a topic they should be responsible for.
The PGA-LIV drama has been continuing since the Saudi-backed league’s inception back in June 2022 and has yet to find common ground to meet. A framework agreement, PIF, was introduced in hopes to mend the game in 2023 but it’s been two-years with no visible progress.
Scottie Scheffler, like many players and fans, is tired of the drama and commented that whoever left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf should be responsible for answering questions regarding the divide. Furthermore, he believes that they are the reason why there’s such a mess in the first place.
They knew the consequences of that decision, and I’m not here to change their minds…They did what they wanted to do, and I can’t control their life…If we want to figure out why the game of golf is not back together, go ask those guys. Go to wherever they are playing this week and figure out when the game is going to come back together.

🚨💀🗣️ #GO ASK THOSE GUYS — On a pre-Masters media conference call, defending champion Scottie Scheffler tee’d off on LIV golfers, blaming them for the current divide in the game: “They did what they wanted to do, and I can’t control their life. He further added that he wished some of the top players who left could have stayed but at the end of the day, it was their call. Many who left the Tour reasoned financial upliftment, fewer play-off schedules, and added benefits as reasons to leave.
Currently, it doesn’t seem like the PGA-LIV unification will happen anytime soon. Despite meetings at the White House, figures like PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan, Tiger Woods, and Rory McIlroy are not confident in getting the merger done this year at least.
Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy unsure of PGA-LIV merger deal
Tiger Woods along with Jay Monahan met with President Donald Trump to discuss the current ongoing situation of golf. However, while the meetings seemed proactive, the result still remains the same with stalemate progress done.

Furthermore, Woods frankly noted that he doesn’t believe a unification deal will be done anytime soon, not at least by this year. It’s been two years since the merger discussions and many are losing hope of seeing the top players fight for a spot again.
Look, I think it takes two to tango. So if one party is willing and ready and the other isn’t, it sort of makes it tough.

🚨⛳️❌ #NEW: Rory McIlroy comments on a potential deal for pro golf: “Look, I think it takes two to tango. So if one party is willing and ready and the other isn't, it sort of makes it tough.” Also added: “I don't think it's ever felt that close, but I don't, it doesn't feel like… pic.twitter.com/Nzc3fOPIxC

He further added that “the narrative around golf”, especially for the PGA Tour doesn’t necessarily require a deal. He believes the Tour is still going strong and a deal is only necessary for the unification and top players competition, not a necessity for the Tour itself.
Will Donald Trump’s involvement in PGA-LIV drama solve the merger issue?
President Donald Trump is actively participating in discussions regarding the PGA-LIV deal. As an avid player and fan himself, he wishes to see the game unify for the betterment of the future.

However, currently, the talks are once again at a stalemate. Rory McIlroy even hinted that maybe the involvement of Elon Musk, who he deems one of the smartest, will help better the situation.

Despite speculations, any positive news about the merger is not going to be anytime soon, but surely sometime in the future. Like Jay Monahan added, “We’re doing everything we can to bring the two sides together”, but it’ll be a while to see the top players compete with each other again.
