On Sunday, Scottie Scheffler claimed yet another victory on the PGA Tour. The World No.1 captured his 20th PGA Tour title with a victory at The American Express. Following this win, he joined Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in the PGA Tour’s $100 million club.
After missing the Sony Open in Hawaii, Scheffler began his 2026 season last Thursday at The American Express Championship. This was his first start on the tour since he won the Procore Championship in Napa last September.
He kicked off the season from where he left and fired an opening round score of 63. This was followed by a score of 64 in the second round. After 36 holes, he was co-leading the tournament alongside 18-year-old Blades Brown, who had shot a score of 60 in the second round.
Following a score of 68 in the third round, the American international found himself 1 shot behind Si Woo Kim. In the final round, the 4-time major champion went low once again.
Despite a double bogey on the 17th hole, he finished the round with a score of 66. He wrapped up the tournament, finishing 27-under par, 4 strokes ahead of the runners-up Jason Day, Ryan Gerard, Matt McCarty and Andrew Putnam.

This victory saw him cross $100 million in career earnings from playing on the PGA Tour. McIlroy and Woods are the only other two golfers to amass this amount from just playing on the course.
In 151 events, Scheffler has made $101,109,136. McIlroy has made $107,981,766 through 273 starts on the PGA Tour. Woods, meanwhile, sits on top with a total career earnings of $120,999,166 from 378 events.

PGA Tour star compares Scottie Scheffler with Tiger Woods after dominating win at The American Express
In his first start of the season, Scottie Scheffler emerged as the winner. Following his dominating win at The American Express, a PGA Tour star compared him with Tiger Woods.

In the past few years, Scheffler has seen himself being compared with Woods several times. Many times, the 29-year-old has turned down these comparisons.
After his win on Sunday, PGA Tour star Michael Kim brought up this topic once again. In a post on X, the 1-time PGA Tour winner expressed that Scheffler is as good as Woods among every other years apart from the latter’s peak years from 2000 to 2006.
Maybe not the peak Tiger years like 2000 or 2006. But Scottie is as good as Tiger amongst every other yr And Scottie isn’t going to change swings drastically throughout his career either. Just gotta avoid cooking from time to time.

In context, Woods had 39 PGA Tour wins, including 10 majors from 2000 to 2006. So Scheffler still has a long way to go to catch up to the former World No.1 golfer.
For now, he will turn his attention to the Waste Management Phoenix Open from TPC Scottsdale on February 5. He will not be teeing up this week at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, which features the highly anticipated return of Brooks Koepka.
