On Tuesday, Scottie Scheffler was seen at the SoFi Center. Amid reports of the TGL filing a trademark for a Texas team, the World No.1 was seen testing out the setup.

Scheffler is currently not a part of the TGL. The Dallas-native did not take part in the league’s inaugural season last season.

TGL, the tech-infused league owned by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and TMRW Sports, will kickstart their second season later this month. Ahead of this, there had been reports of the league introducing a Texas-based team.

The league currently consists of 6 teams: the Jupiter Links GC, the Boston Common Golf, the New York Golf Club, the Los Angeles Golf Club and the Bay Area Golf Club. Earlier, the league announced Motor City Golf Club (based in Detroit) as its first expansion team and will play from 2027.

In the midst of reports of a potential Texas-based team, Scottie Scheffler was seen testing out the setup at the SoFi Center. In a video shared on X by Golf Channel’s Brentley Romine, the 4-time major champion would hit the ball at the giant simulator screen.

Even during a simulation round, the golfer would hit a precise shot. He was able to land the ball on the greens, a few yards away from the hole.

As per reports from Sports Business Journal, the TGL filed for trademarks for Texas and a Chicago-based team. Scheffler could be a perfect fit for the Texas team given his Dallas roots.

Scottie Scheffler matches another Tiger Woods record following latest triumph

Scottie Scheffler has been on a roll in the past few years. His impressive plays and victories have seen him often being compared to Tiger Woods. Following his latest triumph, he matched another record of the golf great.

On Monday, Scheffler was awarded the Jack Nicklaus Award, an honor given to the PGA Tour Player of the Year. The 29-year-old once again dominated the playing field this year following a slow start to the campaign.

Following his win at the CJ Cup Bryon Nelson, the American international, claimed his 3rd major championship at the PGA Championship. He followed this up with a victory at the Memorial Tournament.

He then picked up his 2nd major triumph of the year with a 4-shot win at the 153rd Open Championship and completed three legs of the career grand slam. An incredible comeback on the final day of the BMW Championship saw him stun Robert MacIntyre and some sporting greats as he erased a 4-shot lead to emerge victorious.

He finished the year with a win at the Procore Championship in Napa. Of the 20 events he played, he made the cut in all of them and claimed 6 wins and 1 runner-up finish. This achievements saw him being named the PGA Tour Player of the Year for a 4th season running.

This triumph saw him match another record of Tiger Woods. He is now just the second golfer to win this award in 4 successive years. Woods won this award 5 times in a row from 1999 to 2003.

Scheffler’s victory did cause some stir among golf fans on social media. The World No.1 edged out World No.2 Rory McIlroy for this award. While he picked up two major wins, McIlroy also tasted some huge success this year.

The Northern Irish golfer started off the year with a win at the AT&T Pebble Beach and then won The Players Championship for a second time in his career. He then finally conquered his demons of the Augusta National and won the Masters Tournament and completed the career grand slam in the process.

McIlroy then won his National Open in Ireland before guiding Team Europe to an away Ryder Cup win against Scottie Scheffler and the United States. The former World No.1 ended his campaign by picking up his 7th Race to Dubai title, surpassing his idol Seve Ballesteros‘s record of 6 wins.
