Regardless of how things ended with Russell Wilson, Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton seems to be happy with the new beginning. He is believed to have found a gem in rookie quarterback Bo Nix

The Broncos haven’t decided who will be their starting quarterback in the upcoming season as they are letting Nix, Zach Wilson, and Jarrett Stidham compete for the position. However, the one holding the advantage of being a franchise favorite for the position is the 12th overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft– Nix.

Previously, Payton praised the rookie for how quickly he had been picking up on things. A week has passed since then and the team’s OTAs have also begun, where the first-round pick is having several practice sessions. This time, when the head coach was asked about Nix’s progress at OTAs, he responded with a refreshing answer.

It’s hard for me to catch you up like on a Netflix series. All three of [the quarterbacks] are doing well. Specifically to Bo, he’s doing really well. He’s picking it up. There’s a lot that’s going in. He’s throwing the ball extremely well.
Sean Payton told the reporters

After poor relations with former QB Wilson, Payton is making sure it doesn’t happen again with Nix. Therefore, he is showering high praise on the quarterback and praising his progress. That is to say, if the regular season begins today, the Broncos will start with Nix in the lead.

Bo Nix’s speed and length under the spotlight

The team’s OTAs are just the beginning, Nix would next have a bigger test during the training camp to prove he’s ready to take up the responsibilities of a starting QB. After that, preseason arrives, where the rookie will be exposed to external competition and that’s when his speed and length differences will be evaluated to see his abilities.

The Broncos are hoping to see how well their quarterbacks understand the defensive scheme, in order to, understand where the windows are and quickly space out as they caught the ball.

Although Nix has likely had such moments of realization as he adapted to professional sports, hearing from his head coach that he is doing “really well” and throwing so well, despite facing stronger and taller opposing defenders suggests that everything so far has been within the rookie quarterback’s capabilities and nothing exceeds beyond that.
