The second UFC pay-per-view event (UFC 312) of 2025 was headlined by Dricus Du Plessis and Sean Strickland in a middleweight championship fight. Following the fight, the ‘Tarzan’ faced significant criticism for his performance. Notably, UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad also made light of the situation, adding to the scrutiny Strickland endured.

During the main event fight, Sean Strickland was unable to outclass Dricus Du Plessis in any aspect of the game. As a result, DDP, the UFC middleweight champion, further solidified his reign. In contrast to the praise DDP received, Strickland faced backlash from many. Interestingly, several analysts and fellow fighters had strong reactions to the fight. Meanwhile, Belal Muhammad seized the opportunity to take a jab at ‘Tarzan’.

What did we learn yesterday? We learnt, Bully’s always right. I’ve been saying it forever, Sean [Strickland] sucks. He’s trash. Talks a big game but he never walks… He wants people to say that ‘he’s crazy, he’s nuts’. He’s not. He’s just a racist little clown that’s hiding in the body of a fighter. He’s a coward.

Interestingly, Muhammad and Strickland do not have a strong camaraderie. Over the years, they have engaged in a back-and-forth rivalry on several occasions. Most recently, Strickland criticized Muhammad for speaking out in support of Palestine amid the ongoing conflict with Israel. As a result, the UFC welterweight champion has expressed a desire to face off against ‘Tarzan.’

Due to Strickland’s inability to defeat Du Plessis in their recent fight, Muhammad openly criticized ‘Tarzan’ once again. Interestingly, like the UFC welterweight champion, many other notable figures in the community also reacted to Strickland’s performance. While most were critical of Tarzan’s lack of determination to win, there was still a positive outcome from his UFC 312 appearance.

Sean Strickland breaks a significant UFC record during his grudge match against Dricus Du Plessis

‘Tarzan’ Sean Strickland is one of the veterans in the UFC, with over a decade of experience in the promotion. He has participated in more than 20 fights in the UFC. Throughout his career, Strickland has established himself as a skilled stand-up striker. Notably, he even dethroned Israel Adesanya to become the UFC middleweight champion.

In his recent fight in Australia, despite coming up short, Strickland managed to land a total of 128 significant strikes. Following this performance, the American fighter surpassed UFC legend Michael Bisping’s record for the most significant strikes landed in UFC history. Strickland’s overall tally of significant strikes now stands at 1,465, while Bisping’s record is currently 1,384.

However, when discussing his career record, it’s clear that his recent fight performances have been quite inconsistent. That being said, it will be interesting to see who he fights next. Currently, there is uncertainty regarding his estimated return date, as Strickland broke his nose in the fight against Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 312.
