Sebastian Vettel optimistic about ‘making a difference’ at the Monaco Grand Prix

Monaco Grand Prix

It hasn’t been the start to the season Sebastian Vettel would have hoped for when he left Ferrari last year to join Aston Martin. The 4-time World Champion, after 4 races hasn’t had a Top 10 finish and is yet to score any point.

Although, he showed pace when he reached Q3 at the Spanish Grand Prix, but finished P13 on Sunday, two places behind his team mate Lance Stroll. But the German driver hopes that he could do well at the streets of Monte Carlo.

Vettel said: “I think we see it’s very close. Every weekend is a bit different. And if it’s so tight, maybe if you’ll feel a bit more comfortable, maybe the car suits better to the track, you find an extra one or two tenths. But Monaco is always different, so hopefully we can make a difference.”

Vettel also spoke about the tight battle in the mid-field. “Well, I think everybody is trying to make progress, so it’s difficult to make a lot more progress than the others,” he said.

He also was surprised by the pace of Alpine. The Alpine team were very quick in free practice and qualifying but managed to get only 2 points in the race with Ocon finishing P9 and Alonso P17.

Vettel said: “I was a bit surprised today with the Alpine, they weren’t very quick in the race. I expected them to be faster, because they were so much faster yesterday. But I think we see it’s very close. Equally the AlphaTauris were a lot faster in the race than they were yesterday.”

The F1 calendar will move to Monaco for the first time in 2 years for Round 5. The traditional Circuit de Monaco located at the streets of Monte Carlo is considered to be one of toughest challenge of the teams. The Grand Prix will also be the first race to feature spectators since 2020.
