Kevin Owens has finally returned to his malicious and heelish ways. Being the ruthless heel that he is, it seems that no one is safe from the anti-Christ of professional wrestling. This is because he attacked another one of his friends, Randy Orton, on the latest episode of SmackDown.
In a backstage segment, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis found himself in the middle of an argument between #DIY and The Street Profits. He walked away from the scene after hearing sounds of a struggle and asked security to accompany him. The 37-year-old ran into Owens, beating down on a helpless Randy Orton. The Canadian was screaming at the Apex Predator and repeatedly told him that he had picked the wrong side.
Earlier during the show, Owens had addressed turning on Cody Rhodes in the parking lot. This segment eventually transpired into a brawl between these two superstars, and Orton came out to diffuse the situation. The Prizefighter unintentionally hit an elbow on the Viper, which led to him being the victim of a punch from the latter.
This interaction caused something to snap in the SmackDown Superstar, leading to him turning on the Legend Killer. Owens and Orton had been accomplices since earlier this year. They both used to have a common enemy in Logan Paul and also joined forces to take on the new Bloodline. However, with this latest altercation, it appears that things have become complicated for this trio of friends.
Vince Russo says that Kevin Owens turning on Cody Rhodes was the worst thing that he had ever seen
Kevin Owens turning on Cody Rhodes in the parking lot while the cameras stopped rolling was a controversial decision by WWE. Although many fans wanted this segment to be on the Bad Blood PLE, others thought that the promotion’s execution of the angle was very clever. With WWE not releasing the footage on their own, it made the segment feel more realistic and spread like wildfire on social media.
However, Vince Russo and Jonathan Coachman clearly do not agree with this stance. Speaking on The Coach and Bro Show, the former WWE writer said that this heel turn was the worst thing he had ever seen. It was hard for him to believe that a random fan just happened to catch this moment of Kevin Owens turning heel in the parking lot on their phone’s camera.
Russo had a problem not just with the concept of the segment but also its execution. He went on to say that Owens did a terrible job of throwing punches at Cody Rhodes, which made the angle even worse. Kevin Nash had even called these punches “egg beaters.” To conclude, he implied that the WWE Universe would believe that anything shown to them was good.
